This is a fantastic example of how art in churches was used to tell the stories of the bible to the masses who couldn't read. The walls either side of the nave are covered with beautiful frescos. There is an audio guide which will take you through each panel and every other piece of art in the building, but the... More

Fascinating for its frescoes and the lovely story and chapel of St. Fina. For a cathedral it is very small but is well worth a visit for these two things - as well as giving you a rest from the crowds and heat outside.

Not like any church I have ever been in. The stained glass looked dull next to the beautiful frescos that covered every inch of plaster. Shoulders need to be covered but they give you a wrap should you need it. Well worth the 4 euro entrance fee.

Is one of the most important monuments in the town. Its completely covered inside with frescoes that tell the story of the bible. One of these is quite ......well, blood thirsty got to say. think it depicts hell. Its really nice though to see that these painting have survived when so many similar ones throughout Italy's churches have not. Sadly... More

We loved the duomo as it was certainly old and beautiful. The interior had frescos and the windows were lovely, quite a lovely visit to the duomo.

I have visited San Gimignano on two previous occasions but never left enough time to enter the Duomo although admired it from the outside. You need to go to the right of the cathedral to buy a ticket from the bookshop across the piazza,I think it cost 4 Euros. The walls of the basilica-plan church are lined with frescoes that tell... More

At €4 the church is a steal for what you get: a substantial church covered wall to wall with frescoes. While they may not be of great artistic quality, they are vast and tell the stories of the Old and New Testament. To get the most out of a visit pick up a free audio guide - it talks through... More

The frescos are very well preserved and it makes for a very interesting visit - especially with the audio guide. At Euro 4 this is a steal esp for those who are keen to learn more about the story of each fresco.

Beautiful, well preserved Frescoes dating from 12th Century. You can call this Cathedral the main center in San Gimignano. Best if you take a guided tour.

It's not uncommon for a church in Italy to ask for an admission fee to enter. When you think about it the church has to pay someone to clean and there's works of art which after centuries must be restored and maintained. The Collegiata di Santa Maria Assunta charges €4 to get in. When you enter you're greeted by a... More
