This museum offers 3 rooms basically. The first room is the council's room, where Dante Alighieri (author of the divine comedy) held an apparently famous speech. This room has a nice ceiling, a bust of Dante and some religious art from the fourteenth century. The second room offers more religious art from the fourteenth and fifteenth century. All well preserved,... More

If you decide to fight the crowds of tourists in the tourist trap of San Gimignano, plan on climbing the umpty-ump stairs to the top of the Podesta's Palace to get a view of the whole town and the gorgeous hills and valleys around it. Be prepared for the ringing of the bell, which will shake the tower, and you,... More

You should make this the first place you stop when you visit San Gimignano. It has a model of SG as it appeared in the 1400's and you get a great overview of its history. We had a private guide who was very knowlegeable. It's rather hard to find and not well advertised or signed. More

We just returned from this beautiful town and found that walking through it was relaxing and interesting even though it was the height of tourist season. The climb to the top was worth it as the views and picture taking possibilities are fantastic. There are many shops albeit some too touristy for us and good restaurants. More

Exit the Information Centre in the Piazza Duomo and turn left where there are steps up one of the remaining towers of San Gimignano. I paid 5 Euro and was there right on opening time thanks to the advice of other Trip Advisors. The steps up aren't too difficult. Make the effort and do it early when the light is... More

The entrance to Torre Grossa is situated at the top of the steps on the left hand side of Piazza del Duomo. It opens at 0930. Make it a priority to go early and enjoy the serenity and breath taking views before the bus parties start arriving after 1000. More
