Went to visit the Leaning Tower on way home after spending a few days in Florence. The Tower is based inside a walled city with souvenir shops all down one side and a museum and church and restaurants surrounding it. The day we went it had been torrentially pouring down with non stop rain from the moment we woke up... More

We started our trip to Florence here, staying one night, with a view of the Tower from our bedroom. Despite iffy weather, the morning climb is a magnificent experience. It's extraordinarily unsettling to wander around the spiral staircase 14 degrees out of true, with the lean changing completely every twenty steps. Your sense of balance takes time to recover. The... We were driving from Casarza Ligure to Lucca and took a quick side trip to see the tower. We were able to park on the street near the tower and walked over to take the obligatory photos that all tourists seem to take. We did not climb the tower, but to me, Pisa is a quick stop on the way... More

So much has been said and written about it. I was disappointed by the fact that it is surrounded by buildings and houses and very touristy. I guess that has to be expected. More

The tower is stunning, and it leans quite a lot! We first saw it on a rainy cold evening, with few tourists, and it was gorgeous despite the weather! We returned the next day in glorious sunshine, and it sparkled in the sun, very clean and shiny. There were a lot of tourists, and people trying to sell things, which... More

This time we had the time (and access) to walk up to the top. That is a fairly energetic climb up the tilted tower steps and really can mess up one's sense of balance. But the view from the top is worth it. More

We stopped here on our day tour of this area. We all were impressed with all the recent work done to clean and restore this ancient tower! It is amazing just how far it does lean, and you can pay a fee and walk to the top if you choose. This is a great photo op stop when touring this... More

Some reviews show the tower separate from the Duomo and the Piazza dei Miracoli - it's all together. It's worth the climb to the top - great views. It's also worth going in the baptistery and basilica. Ask for an "echo demonstration" in the baptistery. More

I visited it at night and the view was magical without the crowds and the vendors. Love it. More
