LIS is a school of Italian language and culture located at walking distance from the city center, adjacent to the walls outside S. Anna Gate. We offer group courses and individual classes of Italian for students any age and level, and recreational activities (like excursions, cooking lessons, bike trips, seminaries on Italian cinema or music). Our mission is to provide our students, beside teaching them our language, with a practical and enjoyable experience of our way of life, aiming at a mutually enriching cultural exchange.

My husband and I signed up for one week...tentatively. By the end of the week we were ready for more because the school is so much fun. Our instructor, Susanna, was absolutely fantastic. She encouraged our group with a glowing smile. The extra activities in the afternoon are interesting and informative. The half day format gave us time to relax... More

Sometimes you want to do something extra while touristing than just go around a city or walk up and down the streets and see monuments. To take a class either of the Italian language or cooking (or both for that matter) will give you that something extra. You will feel the pulse of a city (in this case Lucca) from... More

I choose Lucca because I could stay within the walled city and easily walk to the ILS each morning and hopefully take an afternoon or at least weekend excursion to exotic Italian towns. To discover a school where the teachers were extremely competent, friendly and encouraging boosted my confidence enabling me to maximise my learning hours. The management and teachers... More

My mother and I had a great time at Lucca Italian School. With a perfect mix of learning, laughs and local culture the Talk and Cook course was a great week. The teachers were knowledgable and fun, the food was delicious. We're hoping to come back again next year!

In previous years, I went to an Italian language school in Florence that, I thought, was very good. This year, I decided to go to LIS in the beautiful city of Lucca. This was one of the best decisions I have ever made. If you are serious about learning Italian and want to have a LOT of fun learning, LIS... More

Lucca Italian School is extremely professional. My teacher was excellent - very interesting classes in small groups - and there was a good variety of cultural activies on offer. The programme for the walking activity was well chosen and extremely interesting and a fantastic way of discovering Tuscany while learning the Italian language. The new school building is beautiful and... More

Have just spent a wonderful week at this gorgeous school in May. I chose the speak and cook course and was not disappointed. The staff were fantastic, helpful and encouraging. I was in the very beginners class and was made to feel very accepted. The patience shown by the wonderful teachers made it an experience to remember. The cooking was... More

I'm an intermediate (though that's generous to myself) Italian leaner and attended LIS for two weeks in early April. The classes were well-organized, instructive, and fun, with excellent instructors. Students from around the world. Great ambiance. Excellent optional (and inexpensive) day trips. Just an all-round great experience. I also enjoyed Lucca itself. The school is "inside the walls" (the intact... More

At age 75, I fulfilled my dream of attending an Italian language school. I chose Lucca because I wanyed to stay in the city and, at the same time, learn more of the Italian language. This was a great way to do both. The school, which is located in a former villa, was set in beautiful surroundings right across from... More
