My wife and I returned to Lucca after ten years mainly to have the opportunity to walk around the wall. It is that pleasant. Out of the five days we were in Lucca we circled the old town, by way of the wall, four times. It's a very pleasant walk and a good way to burn off some of that... More

Lucca has the best maintained ancient city walls of any town I have visited. You can cycle, jog, walk etc. around the entire city. The path is lined with trees and there are larger, more open areas that are like medium sized parks. You can pass by the lake and river and it feels as though you are in the... More

The historic city wall which surrounds Lucca is a beautiful way to see the city and people watch. Whilst walking around the top of the wall you pass joggers, cyclists and tourists. From the wall you can see the river, parks and beautiful narrow lanes with beautiful buildings. The wall is just under 4 miles long and a must. Added... More

The city center of Lucca is surrounded by a fully intact Renaissance city wall, which is beautiful to see from one of the towers in the city center. We took a few hours to visit the city, getting lost in its pedestrian streets (gorgeous!!). Highly recommended for a short visit if you're in Tuscany.

The rampart is filled each day with joggers, walkers, bicyclists and people with their dogs. Its great to see the young, the old and everyone inbetween out exercising. Great for people watching. We were impressed by how clean the whole place is and how both the people and the dogs using the water. There was a plastic dish under the... More

If one stays in the old city of Lucca, one can forget the map and wander, knowing one is always going to hit the surrounding walls and can find one's way home. These are truly massive walls, stout and VERY wide, well able to resist the new cannon that had brought the other cities' medieval walls crashing down. Now they... More

Second visit to Lucca and the walls. Traversing the ramparts along with local familys, their friends and pets; taking in a broader view of the lovely city; choosing which site to see next from an attractive possition. It was dampened literally but not figuratively by rain; because - what better excuse to pause under awnings and enjoy gelato?! Rain cut... More

We started off our day in Lucca with a pleasant bike ride around the walled town. We rented two bikes for one hour at a reasonable cost of 6€.

The path on the wall is a beautiful walk. It's not too far from florence. For those who have the time, it's a nice place to visit.
