We went to this concert on a Wednesday night. Believe me we are not opera fans but all 4 of enjoyed this, my wife was in tears with the first song that was sung. Provided a awesome end to the day in Lucca.

One of the things not to be missed when you are in Lucca, every night of the year, just pick up a ticket and take a seat

A wonderful evening on the lake with a fabulous production of Turandot. Beautifully staged and sung - an experience not to be missed.

Turandot - wonderful staging, well sung - a real experience. Persevere with the clunky booking website - it is well worth it!

Downside is having to sit in the rain for an hour waiting for it to stop (at least it's warm).Accoustics a bit variable. However all in all a lovely experience.

We thoroughly enjoyed the concert the opera singers were excellent. Though I haven't been to see an opera before to visit a Puccini concert in the church in Lucca was beautiful. There are 2 concerts almost every night of the year and if you buy tickets for the first showing you can go for free to the second one. This... More

I stayed In Lucca for two months in May and June and went to 4 or 5 concerts. They were all wonderful. I really enjoyed all of them. I especially liked the extra free concerts we learned about. Got to see a wonderful 2 hour Verdi concert because we went to the Puccini one. Fantastic.

a very note to tripadvisor: "puccini opera" (this profile) is not the "puccini e la sua lucca" festival at the Church of San Giovanni to whom it may concern: The concerts at the Church of san Giovanni in Lucca must be reviewed(judged at the profile Puccini e la sua Lucca (please write it with spaces in between the single words)... Despite what some reviewers have written we found the performances splendid and thoroughly enjoyed every moment. The singers were excellent and the sounsbalance great in the huge open air theatre. Saw Tosca and Butterfly. Bravo!

Rather strange that most of the arias were by Mozart! Judging by their ages, the singers were music students and some better than others. A little disappointing overall.
