Excellent photo exhibition

Excellent Elliot Erwitt exhibit. The photos are well displayed in galleries on a couple of floors. Didn't try the restaurant here but it looks trendy.

I enjoyed a pleasant half hour viewing the photographic retrospective of Elliot Erwitt. The exhibition was well displayed in light, airy rooms and the experience was well worth the 7 euros I paid on entry.

We saw a few paintings from the 1880's and thought that we had seen everything and then discovered an exhibition on the ground floor. This would have been okay except that the paintings were displayed in the restaurant so we had to stand and peer over people eating their lunch in order to see them. Very embarassing. Would have considered... More

If, like me, you sometimes want a break from Renaissance Madonna and child paintings, stop by LUCCA which hosts interesting modern and contemporary art exhibits. We saw an exhibition of a group of Italian painters called the macchiaioli, who wanted to break away from religious painting and portray everyday life--basically Italian impressionism. It was well curated with a lot of... More

We did not know this exhibition was on, so being a fan of his work and our apartment being a few metres away made this a great bonus to our already excellent holiday in Lucca ! The gallery is very well appointed and has some great spaces for the exhibition, friendly staff and a quiet, but not 'stuffy' atmosphere. When... More

Two floors aligned with gorgeous large format black and white photos by Robert Capa. This retrospective exhibit was exceptional, full of may rare photos from WWII including the falling soldier controversial shot. Also shown were some vintage photos of Hollywood celebrities and well known literary characters, as well as scenes of wartime Italy in obscure off the beaten path places.... More

Discovered this exhibit while in Lucca. Although I had seen smaller shows of Capa photography from Madrid to New York, this was the largest retrospective I have seen. The presentation of the photography was excellent. I will add this museum to the list places we will visit when we return to this corner of Tuscany next year.

Lovely small museum. Reasonable entrance fee. Great exhibit. Need I say more? There's also a fine restaurant in the museum which looked nice, although we didn't eat there.

This photographer was photographing war scenes from the Spanish Civil War til Vietnam. Tragically passed way as a result of stepping on land mine in Vietnam.
