We stayed in a B&B just across from the Basilica of San Giovanni and one of the first things we did was to ensure we had tickets booked for a concert at Puccini e la sua Lucca. We were really looking forward to listening to Puccini's compositions and had done some 'homework' to re-familiarize us with his operas . Unfortunately,... More

One of our highlights during our 2 day stay in Lucca was to attend the Puccini opera performance. The admission was 20 euro's each but well worth it. The concert is in the San Giovanni church which lended to the atmosphere of the performance. The concert only lasted an hour, but the pianist, tenor & baritone's voices echoed throughout the... Lovely setting with outstanding performances. A fitting tribute to Puccini's birthplace and a different programme every night.

Whilst I love classical music there are only a few opera pieces I have heard. Some I have liked and some I most definitely didn't - however before we visited Lucca I came across this attraction and thought why not! Puccini's home town, in the church he used to attend apparently and it would, hopefully, be a pleasant way to... More

We are moderate opera fans and enjoyed the Puccini's Women program. Both sopranos were excellent and the pianist did an amazing job of impersonating an orchestra to accompany them. The acoustics and atmosphere of the church make it a unique experience, although some patrons might object to the uncomfortable chairs. Overall this was a highlight of our time in Italy.

There are concerts every night and In Puccini's birth place one would have to enjoy them. However they are not cheap at €18 - €20 for 50/60 minutes depending on whether you booked online in advance or paid on the night The quality of performances were mixed If I were back in Lucca I would probably attend again but only... Let me start by saying my wife and I know very little about opera (or Puccini for that matter). We went to this Puccini recital which takes place 365 days a year at 19:00 hours - it lasts about an hour with a short break in the middle. We were captivated by the performance - a young girl soprano (with... More

I look with some surprise at the number of excellent reviews this event has garnered over the years. We recently attended a performance and were quite disappointed on a number of fronts. The concert was advertised to start at 7:00pm but did not actually start until 7:15 - there was a 10 minute interval and we were out the door... More

The concert was held in the same church Puccini attended as a boy and the acoustics were fantastic! The two singers were able to bring each selection of Puccini's work alive and the pianist was remarkable and also performed solo. A surprise we stumbled upon!

My wife and I recently enjoyed a Puccini operatic recital while visiting Lucca. The whole experience was superb - wonderful music and singers of great quality in a church where Puccini as a youngster played the organ. A most memorable night.
