Villa Petriaia...is one of my favorite places to hang out on hot summer days. There is so much history in and outside this residence. Iam fortunate to speak italian so I absolutely enjoy all the stories that surround this villa...starting with the Medici family to the King Vittorio Emanuele. The frescos in this villa are breath taking...stuff I learned in... More

My husband and I took advantage of the New Year's Day opening of Villa la Petraia (villa of the Brunelleschi, Medici, Lorraine, and Savoy families). Unfortunately for us, only an Italian language tour was offered. Visitors can visit the grounds on their own but must be in a guided tour to see the house. Not seen on the tour was... More

So happy to find that Gianbologna's beautiful sculpture of Florence is now back in it's rightful place at the top of the Fountain in the gardens of La Petraia - especially as we visited on a clear day with a bright blue sky - it was worth the trip just to see it with water sparkling in the sunshine! The... More

We were very lucky to be able to enjoy a gala dinner at this Villa. Beautiful gardens and the views from outside across to Florence were amazing. The ballroom was magnificent with beautiful frescos and a large chandelier. The hall had very old and well maintained wall hangings which have stood the test of time. We were truly treated to... A beautiful day in early September and time for another visit to the Villa Petraia. Among the many reasons for visiting: firstly there is no charge for entry into the gardens; guided tours of the villa are free and an excellent introduction to Italian history. Buses to the Villa and the nearby Villa Castello are frequent and cheap BUT be... More

As we found to our cost without a car this is not an easy attraction to visit! - the Nos 2 and 28 bus from Florence SMN bus station take you to the bottom of a long, steep and winding road to the Villas Corsini, Reale and La Petraia. We made it -but on a hot day it left little... More

The poster at the Piazzale Michelangelo announcing FREE admission to a series of Medici villas and gardens stirred the Scottish blood in my veins and gave us a second chance to flee the baking hot pavements of the city centre. According to the guy at the tourist information centre, it would be no problem even on a Sunday to get... More
