It was depressing that they did not have any English handouts. How could they possibly run out during the height of tourist season.

If you can only visit either the Duomo Cathedral or the Baptistry, you should visit the Baptistry. My wife and I were in awe after we passed the beautiful door of the Baptistry. Looking up at the mosaics of the ceiling was one of the most beautiful things we saw on our trip. No words need to be exchanged-just appreciate... More

I think that most of the people visiting Florence get amazed by the cathedral and end up not going inside the Baptistry. Big mistake!!! The inside of this building is just magnific. So much beautiful than the cathedral… If you are going to Florence do yourself a favor: go inside, otherwise you are going to regreat…

The bright facade echoes that of the Duomo--and of course there are those famous doors. (But they are replicas, so go to the Duomo Museum to see the original doors in comfort.) But the light and the art inside are amazing. Imagine yourself in the colonnaded balcony above. Admire the floor. Just soak it all in.

The description given by books just fall short of the place. Simply incredible golden decorations makes your jaw drop in awe.

It was VERY Hot and Crowded when I went, but you need to spend at least 10 minutes inside admiring the ceiling and interior. Pay special attention to the Last Judgment on the ceiling. it is particularly interesting. The security guard outside of it was annoying. When I tried to swipe my Firenze Card in the machine and it didn't... More

The doors are the story here. Read up on them and learn the history before you visit. Then enjoy seeing the amazing workmanship of a lost era.

The Ghiberti doors of the Baptistry are one of the most beautiful pieces of art. I'd studied them in college art history but no photo can do them justice. The intricate details. Most people just snap a picture and go. Take the time to really look at them and their mastery. The crowds during the day canmake this difficult. Visit... More
