Viewing this famous statue up, close and personal was beyond anything I had imagined. How one person could create such beauty with a chisel is beyond me. I appreciated the fact that the museum allows on-lookers to observe the fine details of the statue, including the veins in his arms and hands and the detail of the feet and hands.... More

The setting is perfect. The sheer scale is overwhelming. What an artist Michelangelo was to chip away until he"found" David in his beloved Carrara marble.

Seeing the David the first time is awe inspiring but, if you don't plan in advance be prepared to stand in long lines. Our advice is to book your tickets in advance.

We saw both the original statue in the Academia and the reproduction in the Piazza Vecchio near the Ufizi. Whilst the original should be the best, there is something about seeing the sculpture in its intended location that means the reproduction has the edge.

Take the time to see all that you can and include the statue. Others around it are also worth a look and the atmoshpere is awesome.

Larger than life and much more than I ever expected. The level of detail is spectacular. Great work from a maestro!

How could anyone come to Florence and not visit one of the greatest works of art in history by possibly the greatest Renaissance artist? What else is there to say!

Don't get me wrong.... It is awe inspiring to see the original work, but no photography is allowed of the man inside. Plus sorta felt like a cattle call. Lots of milling, no true calm enjoyment of the sculptural beauty. I suggest you take your pictures at the multiple other David's . Start with the one right outside the entrance... More

Ignore the negative reviews. I like the gallery. It may be small, but contains beautiful artwork, including the breathtaking David. That statue is so beautiful, I cannot even remember if we waited in a line. Must see!
