As we have all heard - you have to see the David Sculpture to really appreciate the genious of Michelangelo. There is no way to describe his work but simply brilliant. And the Accademia did a fantastic job with the display and crowd control. Recommend making reservations. We passed a line that was 3 blocks long and got in within... more

I thought the Berninis in Rome were the best of the best... 'til I saw David. It was actually the reason I came to Italy, but I never thought it would actually be so awesome (I was worried it would be anti-climactic). But nothing prepares you for the perfection and the beauty. It's amazing and Florence's #1 attraction. more

I'm not really into Art and Culture but since I was in Florence and Michalangelo's David is one of the most famous pieces of art in the world I figured I'd put up with the 40 min queue to see it. Boy am I glad I did! I have never seen something so impressive in my life! I just stared... more

The Accademia is worth seeing, and David is the primary reason for going. Uffizi is a better art museum, but David is the single work that any visitor to Florence should see. You must have advance tickets in the high season. In March, I waited outside for ten minutes without an advance purchase. Photos are not permitted, I understand this... more

We almost did not get to see Michelangelo's David while in Florence. It was one of two things I wanted to experience in Florence, but didn't realize the need to book in advance. We only had 3 days in Florence. After the first night, I inquired at the desk of our hotel about booking a reservation to see David, and... more

This is something to do if you are an art aficionado. Otherwise you probably have absorbed more than your fair share of beautiful statues along the way here! See the Uffizi instead. Aa great dinner would be a better bet. If you are old the stairs in this building are a real workout (no elevator). more

My advise to anyone traveling through Europe is to take a second to stop in Florence and see David. Also don't get cheap and look at all the replicas of him outside and think you have seen it...Pay the 5 euros at the Academia and see the real thing. I am telling you it will take your breathe away. Seeing... more

Seeing David wasn't something I was terribly excited about during our visit to Florence. While I enjoy art, I'm not all that big on sculpture. Thankfully we decided to see it because it's a "must see," according to all the guidebooks. David far exceeded my expectations. In fact, I would go so far as to say that it was mesmerizing.... more
