The Accademia’s claim to fame is Michelangelo’s statue of David. We had purchased tickets over a month ahead of time, only to find ourselves on an unbudging line comprised of hundreds of other people who also had reservations. (Granted, the line for those who bought tickets in advance was shorter than the same-day line, which was an estimated four hours... More

On the bucket list, a must-see if you want to see Italian art. The local guide, hired through Globus tours, was excellent. He explained all of the Michelangelo statues we got to see, and David was amazing; especially with a tour guide giving background information.

Of course the main reason to visit is the magnificent statue of David. Well worth the almost two hour wait in the queue to get into the Accademia.

We where on a one on one tour with a native and didn't have to wait in line. A must see when you are in Florence.

Michaelangelo's David is spectacular (obviously), his unfinished sculptures fairly interesting, maybe 1 or 2 paintings that I thought were outstanding. Poor labeling of the exhibits, at least in English, detracted from the experience.

What an amazing sculpture. We visited the Accademie with a guide which gave us a lot of information and background that others didn't have. This is an amazing work and hard to believe such a large statue came from one piece of marble. One mistake and Michelangelo would have lost three years. But, he was spot on and the world... More

Like the Grand Canyon, Michelangelo's David delivers. No matter how many photos you've seen, it's not the same as standing in the shadow of this magnificent sculpture. That's the main reason to go the Accademia. There are other great works there, but most are not well-lit or curated. However, they did well by David, in his own beautifully-designed cupola. Be... My fourth visit over the years and I am always shocked when I first see it. Crowd control seems to be better now, so there was an ability to linger and view the sculpture from all angles.

First of all, prebook your ticket with the museum, not a third party organisation, and like us you will get in just fine. You can take pictures but no flash. There are no photos allowed in the special exhibit areas only. There is a lot of early religious are here which leads up to seeing David. I was surprised with... More
