Do take the time and walk to Eremo Le Celle from Cortona. A round trip should take you around 1.5 hr doing an easy pace.

We visited in the late afternoon and enjoyed the stillness (except for some frogs). It's a peaceful place for contemplation just outside the friendly bustle of the walled city of Cortona. Beautiful views of the valley from here.

We went here with part of the Enthusiastic Traveler tour group. It was a very peaceful way to pass the afternoon and to get a sense of what the area must have been like in St. Francis' time...

Spouse, friends and I visited the monastery, Le Celle, where St Francis spent time in 1226, saw his cell, the 30 cm wide plank with a half log for a pillow that was his bed......such self discipline.........not for this kid! However it is a visit that I highly recommend. There is an air of serenity about the buildings which are...
