We went to see the tiles in this town and it was worth the cost. The artwork that went into making these tiles perfect was amazing. The way they preserved the art is an art itself. Lots of tours go here but we got lots of good pics.

The Roman villa El Casale has been famous for its great mosaics, published in thousands books, but nothing compares with the real thing. The visit is free for those teaching/learning Archaeology. You have to spend at least 2 hours to really enjoy the vast quantity of mosaics. The iconographic programme is amazing. There is a minibus that takes you from...

Piazza Armerina is a hill town with roads narrow enough to scare the experienced European driver. Our GPS kept trying to take us into paths too wide for a bicycle. Eventually we abandoned the GPS and guessed how to get to Villa Romana. We found it after a few tries, and it was well worth the effort. The palace is...

Nowhere else will you be able to see such a detailed representation of the customs of the Roman era, all brought to life through hundreds of square meters of wonderful, impressively preserved mosaics. The recently built site restoration, with brand-new viewing platforms, have turned this already impressive site into a world-level archeological site.
DO NOT MISS the Roman mosaics in the Villa Romana del Casale, It contains the richest, largest and most complex collection of Roman mosaics in the world. It's a UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Then visit the town and admire the Norman, Gothic and Baroque architecture of the buildings, the Cathedral and the churches.
If you're anywhere near here, on no account miss Piazza Armerina. The excellence of the restoration, the picture you can build up of life at the posh end of life in Roman Sicily, and above all the wonderful wonderful mosaics, make this an absolutely must-do.
We didn't like Piazza Armerina very much itself, but with a car it's extremely well placed for visits to the Greek city of Morgantina and the nearby Villa Romana del Casale.
Yes, it is shown in one of the mosaics in the Villa del Casale. Many other mosaics show hunt scenes (even with a Rhinocero) or other human activities. It is very strange that it is unknown who was the owner of the villa but he had to be a very wealthy person. If you want to visit a roman house...

Beautiful mosaics - If you have any interest in Roman history, you will enjoy this. The villa is laid out in the classic Roman style and much of it is in excellent condition. We were even able to see original Roman pipes running under the buiding. We had an excellent guide who obviously had a passion for his subject.
This Roman Emperors home has tile floors unlike any other. We had a fabulous guide set up by Tradizione Turismo who had stories for everything. What a blast.
