This museum is small and the price was a bit more than I expected. But it does have 2 famous Caravaggio's . We had the museum to ourselves and our 2 children (9 and 7 yrs old) seemed to enjoy it as well!

We visited this lovely museum in September 2014 and were truly impressed. Other reviews rightly praise the 2 wonderful Caravaggios, an Antonello and some other works. They are stunning. This is a small museum where you can wander, and think, and re-view for as long as you like. For a viewer, it is just about perfect. While it is a... More

On this trip we were on a sort of Caravaggio mission, and that is reason to go to this museum. As the name implies, the museum has art, all of a religious nature, by artists from the region. Most of the paintings were Madonna and Child or Crucifixion scenes. The exceptions were the two large and impressive Caravaggios, one of... More

We visited at the end of a Thursday afternoon and had the Museum to ourselves. This tiny location houses two of the Masters works. We have 20 minutes with them alone and this is one of the few places you can get up close to Caravaggios (DON'T TOUCH!) The rest of the Museum has some other good historical works both... More

We used the local tram to visit the museum, there are some beautiful paintings but the masterpiece has to be the Caravaggio, simply stunning and a must see.

We were staying in Taormina and rented a car and drove to Messina specifically for the Museo Regionale and its Caravaggios. Imagine our shock when we arrived and were told by some maintenance workers that the museum was closed! No mention of this on their website. Just a small paper notice taped to the gate (which was open) indicating that... More

Don't miss this opportunity to see Antonello da Messina's damaged, but still wonderful, St Gregory polyptych. He isn't as well known to the general public as he deserves, and there may not be much information available in the museum (especially in any language other than Italian), so it would be a good idea to read about him before you go... The museum is under renovation and is expecting a new purpose-built institution when finished (whenever that might be). In the meantime we have this: a very old building (the bathrooms are located outside the building in another entrance where apparently there are offices--you will have to ask), and a very new building with some of its rooms already open. Altogether... More

We took a trip here on our short visit to Messina expecting to see lots of artefacts and exhibits, but was a little disappointed by what we saw. We got the impression that (as it was end of season) several of the rooms were not open, and felt that there must be more here than we were able to see.... More

This is a cute Museum and a must stop for any Art History Lover! I've heard its not easy to find, however we were on a Cruse and a short taxi ride brought us right to the front door. The resurrection is the undisputed star but a look around at the other works of art are worth it. It appears... More
