The main square of Catania is a great place to start your explorations of this energetic city. The buildings surrounding the square are very beautiful, the elephant statute in the middle is interesting (it is the symbol of Catania), the Cathedral is there and the fish markets are very close.

A must see when in Catania, Sicily. The elephant statue is wonderful. The catholic church across from the Piazza is also a must.

It was a lovely sunny day when we came in this square in front of the cathedral, so we really enjoyed sitting there and watching people walking around. And also admiring the magnificent cathedral.

The history and the way was kept. I enjoyed so much to enter that church.I would go back to Catania only to go back to Saint Agata church.

This is a lovely square where you can see the slightly bizarre elephant obelix but also sit and have a cold drink and watch the world go by with views of the beautiful Duomo. Lovely

Catania is a beautiful yet gritty European gateway city. The Piazza Duomo is the nerve centre. Nothing says Europe more than a beautifully lit square with fountain and surrounding ornate and slightly decrepit yet charming buildings. We got a gelato and just drank in the surroundings.

I lived in Sicily for several years and had visited the Piazza Duomo several times without discovering what a great place it is at night. The streets to the left and right of north (don't go south) are pedestrian malls and packed with nice shops and excellent restaurants. There are a lot of folks enjoying the scene there both young... Pleasantly relaxed people wandering around even at midnight. Attractive old buildings around this well-proportioned ideal square.

This piazza embodies a perfect description of the traditional piazza. It's a wide open space surrounded by buildings of great history and character. The unique elephant fountain makes the space quite cheery. With cafes all around there's fine people watching.

Catania is a wonderful baroque city with so many nice buildings. Many visitors will walk around at PIazza Duomo. Do walk outside Piazza Duomo and will find some more stunning beautifully constructed buildings and great cafes. Is a place i will come back again, hopefully in the near future.
