The Duomo is grand though lacks the splendour of so many other cathedrals. Around the piazza is the fish market, gardens (villa Pacino - think), the port is 400 yards away and scores of restaurants abound; you may want to find one off the beaten track. The people I met were generous and kind.

A small Piazza compared to some cities in Italy and Sicily but a fascinating space and beautiful Duomo. The elephant statue obviously makes this a little different and the fountain in the back corner with the infamous fish market peeking out from behind is lovely at night. Restaurants in the Piazza are refreshingly reasonably priced and there are minimal tat... More

Piazza Duomo is one of the several squares in Catania. There are several attractions here, my favourite being the Sant'Agata cathedral which is beautiful! Make sure you take the time to go in here. The elephant statue is in the middle of the square, we were told that he is apparently the protector of the city from any eruptions of... More

Piazza Duomo in Catania is a great place to enjoy some of the wonderful Italian architecture in the busy city. It also serves as the "gateway" to the market which is a must see. I recommend grabbing a caffe or gelato and enjoying the views of the Square.

Beautiful main square, in a lovely town. We really loved visiting Catania, the old town, some of the more secluded spots and older streets, the fish market. A town where it is certainly worth spending at least an afternoon and an evening (as we did)
