Lovely little square with all the architecture surrounding you. Lots of little cafes to sit in and take in the view.

Catania could be a great town and Piazza Duomo is the demonstration of it. Unfortunately it's one of the few places clean and neat all over the city. It's a pedestrian square like Via Etnea with the exception of bikes and some buses that crosses there. Not crowded because it is very large offers a wonderful view on the buildings... More

Piazza Duomo is somewhat similar to Brussels Grand Place. My first thought anyway. You have the Catania elephant (made of lava stone) fountain in the middle and some restaurants around the center. A great starting point to explore the city of Catania. You will be taking some photoes here;)

We saw very little of the city, but after a good dinner we walked late at night on Via Etnea up to this wonderful and unusual square. By night its beauty is unsurpassed. Great fascination . It took us by surprise . Quiet and silent with valuable lightning. On top the statue of the Elephant. Awesome.

Happening piazza, The more late night, the more crowd. Around the piazza is the duomo and other landmarks. There is those tourist train cost 6 euro for a tour around the city but do it daytime as night time, you can't see much and not a good time for taking pictrues.

Not the best Duomo you can visit, a piazza that hasn't any charm apart from the elephant statue that seems to laugh himself from the the Duomo joke you just lived.

Whilst not the grand piazza normally associated with a Duomo, major city cathedral, the views are still worthwhile. With the Duomo on one side the three remaining sides each have period buildings that are of visual interest. In the centre of the Piazza is the U Liotru (Elephant) fountain made of lava, and the symbol of Catania. Whilst restaurants are... More

The Duomo is grand though lacks the splendour of so many other cathedrals. Around the piazza is the fish market, gardens (villa Pacino - think), the port is 400 yards away and scores of restaurants abound; you may want to find one off the beaten track. The people I met were generous and kind.

A small Piazza compared to some cities in Italy and Sicily but a fascinating space and beautiful Duomo. The elephant statue obviously makes this a little different and the fountain in the back corner with the infamous fish market peeking out from behind is lovely at night. Restaurants in the Piazza are refreshingly reasonably priced and there are minimal tat... More
