Nice Gardens, Not that Well Kept.

Nice Gardens that are nicely done, but not that well maintained. The hothouses are really nice if you want to experience the rainforest and have never been to one, or have.

The Orto Botanico is a lovely botanical garden near the city center on Via Etnea, close to a bus stop. The ticket office is at the front gate and admission is only a few euros. A map is provided, but the gardens are small enough (16, 000 square meters) that you can wander around and enjoy it all within a... More

Safe your time for something else. A few things that are strange: 1. It looks nice in the pictures. Reality is quite different and garden is dissapointing. 2. They charge an entry fee (3 EURO/person) since at the same time people can enter the garden from the other side for free. 3. Even they charge you, some places are absolutely... More

I think it's meant to be 4 euros to get in but we were told it was free (we may have looked over 65!). Very nice gardens in 2 parts - a Sicilian garden and the rest of the world. Lots of shade, beautiful plants and flowers and impressive trees. A good way to spend an hour or 2 and... More

The website with all museums and the botanical garden listed free admission. Getting there, it turned out to be 4 Euros per person. The cactus garden before the entrance did not look like much, so we skipped it. More of the garden can be seen from Via Ettenea, close to the hotels.

It is a departement of the Catania University, It is located in the main street of the town but the usual entrance is from the opposite side. A lot of species can be found there and there is also a covered tropical garden.

The Botanical Gardens of Catania is such a lovely spot in the morning to just slowly stroll round and to sit and enjoy it is so much larger than it looks from the street .

The Botanical Garden in Catania is not too big, probably because of being locked in a residential area a while ago, and this makes it very manageable. Given the tight space, I found it very well organized, the space is used judiciously and there is very little repetition of the plants/trees. One can spend there from minutes to hours, but... More

We arrived late - could not find the opening hours on the web - so we did a 15 minutes visit, but did not have to pay! Meny cactuses as it was mentioned earlier and a few really exotic and interesting plants, but some parts are a bit less taken care of.

Well laid out, interesting exhibits, plants and tree species - nice cool areas to shelter in on hot days - very pleasant to walk around - we spoke with one of the managers and it struck me it was one of the lesser visited attractions - but for me - well worth half a day!
