A hidden gem in Catania, but unfortunately bad kept, dirty, bad signalization, dangerous paths for not well-footed. Employees not very kind or helpful (typical Italian state-employee). It's a real shame, because this place could be so much more, not only the theater but also the Odeon. Instead of cleaning paths and making certain corners accessible they just close them and... More

This Roman archeological building is a great opportunity to explore up close and wander at will. It was virtually empty of visitors in mid-December, so you don't feel rushed and can imagine the theatre in use 2,000 years ago. Some modern exhibits juxtaposed at the entrance an a small museum in an upper gallery. The recent incursion of local urban... More

deceptive shop-front like entrance that could easily be dismissed. A pleasant surprise into the old teatro romano.

This theatre is spectacular and well worth a visit. It was fairly deserted when I was there and I was able to wander around left to my own devices. There are notice boards, but if you don't speak Italian, I am afraid the English translations are very literal and not at all fluent. Even as an Italian speaker though, I... More

The Roman Theatre is well worth a visit. It is very well preserved and looked after. In the evenings there are often performances in costume.

The site is quite easy to find using either a local map, or following the street signs in the archaeological district, although it’s relatively well hidden behind a row of buildings on Via Vittorio Emanuele II. The site is not huge and has clearly suffered over the years but is very quiet and atmospheric. Walking through the corridors, and up... More

Although small, it a unique opportunity to see an ancient theatre in the heart of the city, just a few blocks from the Duomo. It took a bit to find as it is in the midths of a city block with limited signage, but after circling the block the entrance is obvious. 15-20 min is ample time to view ruins.... More

Small site--takes about 5 min. to see it. You can see it best from the top deck of the hop on-hop off bus.

Found it very interesting although sort of get lost once inside, not sure which way to go etc. would help if there was a mapped out trail to follow. I thought 6 Euros was a bit high for the entrance.
