During our day in Cagliari the cathedral church was one of the most beautiful places we visited. The Cattedrale di Santa Maria e Santa Cecilia as it is called is a great example of changing styles of Italian sacral architecture. The interior is worth some time to appreciate the beauty of the work in marble, the altars and the decorations... More

We visited this beautiful cathedral on our one day cruise stop. We walked from the port (where we were welcomed very warmly & genuinely at the small Tourist Information Stand & provided with a map & any information we required), through the town & up very steep, meandering streets which passed a wonderful spot to photograph the port & miles... Wishing I can go back there again... It's a truly marvelous Cathedral of Cagliari... The old town can make you feel at peace for the surroundings of calm atmosphere and humble settings.

Well worth a visit if you are in the city. Be aware lots of walking up steepish hill to get to the Cathedral from the port area. Much of city in poor state of repair and too much graffiti for my taste.

My husband and I have visited what seems like hundreds of cathedrals and churches on our trip from northern Italy right down south, across to Sicily and now Sardinia. Many have been over the top, some even fair ground level, most were beautiful, a few plain but the Cattedrale di Santa Maria has an elegance,.. about it that I have... More

This is an absolutely beautiful cathedral. It is in the Baroque style. If you are familiar with the style of art, you know that nothing is ever too much in the Baroque and this church is a perfect example of that. The marble is incredible and do not miss the crypt!

This cathedral was first built by the Pisans in the middle of the 13th century. During the 17th century, it was remodelled in Baroque style. The transepts and bell tower preserve Romanesque elements. The Romanesque pulpit was divided in 2 parts that flank the main portal. I found the best evidence of how the Baroque alterations have almost completely hidden... More

No clue how it looks inside, but enjoyed lying in front of that church and admiring the high contrast of colors. Delightful!

Well maintained church, with beautiful architecture and history. Definitely worth visiting, and easy to walk to as it is in the centre of the city.
