We visited Cagliari and on a very hot day climbed to the Cathedral of Santa Maria. While the actual church is beautiful, the real treasure was the crypt beneath the altare.

I have visited many many churches but none like this which has undergone much renovation over the years - Baroque meets the 13th century! Views outside are fantastic and reasonably priced cafes in the vicinity and excellent craft shops. Its high up - bt accessible by lift.

Definitely one of the most beautiful churches we have ever visited, and we have seen many, around the world. We were very impressed by the beauty of this Cathedral's interior.

Even though is not St Peter's in Vatican, the Cathedral of Santa Maria still makes a lasting impression. It has been recently reconstructed, so it looks brand new and ancient at the same time. Don't forget to visit the crypts. The entrance is on the left side to the altar.

There are lots of bigger cathedrals in Europe but there are not many that feature such intricate marble work. It is absolutely amazing and so unexpected. Coming from the street you would never image how beautiful it is from the outside. Definitely worth having a look

Found this church by accident when wandering around Il Catello and it is definitely worth a short visit in my opinion, inside décor is just amazing and there is no fee at all. Visited also churches in Oristano and Alghero but liked this one the most. Just up the square is Torre di San Pancrazio, the highest point in the... More
