The Maria Pia Beach is a gorgeous beach well within walking or cycling distance from Alghero. It's very clean, and well sheltered by the trees along the roadside, making it somewhat private and helping keep the wind to a minimum.

I was here in May 2011. Beach is clean and the water crystal clear. Also great beach for people with little children.

It's just an Intimate and idyllic beach, easily accessible by car. You park it in front of the beach under the pinetrees and walk the boardwalk for just a 100 metres or so

Instead of the crowdy Maria Pia, do rent a bike (or why not a car?) and go south of Alghero instead! Along th coastline towards Bosa, there are several small and very cosy bays, with sand or rocks, whatever!
Don't forget the backpack - it's nice with a picnic on place!

I was disappointed to read previous reviews on Trip advisor that this beach was not up to standard following booking our hotel which overlooked this beach. I arrived with low expectations but was pleasantly surprised. The water quality was perfectly normal and was most certainly not dirty. I must admit the beach on the whole did smell a bit odd...
