This is also a church with plenty of details (check my photos). Many photos posted to this site are from the additional space, the charming cloister consisting of two rows of round arches. The time I visited this church at that area there were plenty of chairs in the in the middle of the patio. A wedding ceremony had just... More

Original Catalan-Gothic parts can be seen over the high altar, the presbytery chapels and the San Sacramento Chapel. The bell tower is from the first half of the 16th century.

We came across this Church as we walked around Alghero old town. The Courtyard is a pleasant surprise after the church and one where you stop and feel calm whether you are religious or not it really gives you a feeling of inner peace

If you are walking through Old Town Alghero, definitely stop in and take a look at this 14th century Romanesque church built by the Franciscans. It is considered Catalan Gothic architecture and the outside is quite plain, almost severe. It is not as ornate as some of the other churches in Europe but it is interesting, especially from a historical... More

While the church is quite ordinary, its the cloisters that make this church worth a visit. The beautiful stone work and the tranquility experienced in the hard of the town was a lovely.

Delightful interior, always worth looking around, most churches have some unusual artefact. This one has a huge bell just inside the door.

We visited Alghero on a weekend when all museums, churches and civic buildings were open and free to enter (this only happens once a year). School children and their teachers were at the many locations including the Church of St. Francis to explain the history - fantastic.
