We went in October 2009. We had a Hire Car so drove to the Cape. We had considered the boat trip from Alghero but at 14euros each just for the boat decided against. 650+ steps each way was great scenery - and felt safe, my wife has a fear of hight / cliff edges. The grotto it self is very... more

The stairs were impressive and a sight to see in itself, certainly worth the trouble (especially getting back up). The tour itself was good; we had a large group and it was difficult to hear despite the guide's microphone, but the sights are the most important part anyway. Definitely a great way to spend a few hours! more

True enoguh, the grotto is spectacular with all its stalagmites and stalagtites - whcih could be seen as cathedral columns and organ pipes among other things. However I think that to go there by boat at the most popular departues should be avoided if you really want to enjoy the beauty of the place. First of all, I found it... more

The trip started out on the boat which was a little expensive (13 Euro per person) but I think overall it was worth it as the bus can take a little long and there's alot of steps to get down to the grotto. We really did enjoy the boat trip, it was a little bit rough but it is expected... more

I was just at Neptune's Grotto end of November, not sure if the boats were running or not but we drove out to Capo Caccio and walked down (and back up!) all the stairs to see the grotto. The natural beauty of the grotto is incredible, I have been on several cavern/cave visits before but never have I seen such... more

We visited the Grotte di Nettuno on 23.10.2006. I'm a 53 year old arthritic asthmatic so we had no choice but to go there by boat (there is no way I could manage the 650+ steps each way) even though my husband is not a good sailor. There's chance the boat won't be able to stop at the caves entrance,... more

The advantages of taking the Alghero-Capo Caccio bus are as follows: - you can be 100% sure of seeing the caves. The boat won't dock at the caves if the waves are rough, and even if the sea looks calm in Alghero, that doesn't mean it is calm at the exposed windward side of Capo Caccio, where the cave entrance... more

I thoroughly enjoyed going to the grotto, Instead of getting a boat trip I drove, its about a 20 min journey from alghero & is well signposted, also the drive, for the best part of it is along the coastline and is very scenic. you can park right by the entrance although I imagine its limited in peak season. there... more

I have to agree with the other reviews, we were in Alghero last year and took a boat trip to the grotto. The sea was actually too rough to get into the caves but they still took us out , just around the bay. Apparently they do this all the time so as not to miss out on your money,... more

I got a really cheap flight to Alghero a few years ago, out of season when the rip-off, ( according to some of your contributors ) boats don't visit the caves. There was one bus a day from the town to the grotto entrance - I was the only person on it, and the guide and I had to walk... more
