We had the pleasure of Igor's company on my wife's birthday last month when he guided us around this amazing city. It honestly felt like we were just going on a walk with an old friend who just happened to know everything there was to know about this incredible place and could answer any question we had. From the moment... More

Our family, including a 21 yr old student and an 84 yr old grandma, recently toured Venice for an afternoon with Igor and we had ourselves a fantastic time!! We took a private walking tour and Igor knew everything there was about Venice and all the popular spots. But even better were the out-of-the-way experiences to a cool bookstore and... More

Igor is an amazing tour guide. We did two different tours with him, and they were both incredible. On our first day there we did the off the beaten path tour where he showed us around Venice, filled us in on the history, and answered any questions we had. We had a chance to see and learn things in Venice... More

Our family (4 adults and 2 young children) did 2 days of private tours with Igor. He was very fun and humourous. He was very knowledgeable and shared many interesting, lesser known facts about Venice you can't find in a guide book or with a large group tour. He was flexible to adapt the itinerary to our needs too. A... More

Our tour began with a water taxi waiting outside the front door of our hotel. We were off to Murono, then Burono, then back to Venice. Every island was so unique and Igor was a wealth of information on each. He seemed to know everyone as we strolled the streets. We had arranged for a four hour tour but he... More

Two of us had Tour Leader (Igor) for half a day in Venice and had a wonderful time. Igor took us off the beaten track which gave us an amazing insight on the real venice visually which was enriched by his amazing historical knowledge. By the end of our tour we felt like we knew Venice and a delightful person... More

Four of us had Tour Leader (Igor) for a day in Venice and had a wonderful time. Igor is an incredible historian and knows this area inside and out. By the end of our tour we were with a friend who clued us in to lots of places we would never have found on our own. The day was extremely... More

I just got back from leading a group of 23 people to Venice, and I used Igor and his company for our transfers and tours. Everything went off without a glitch, and the communication leading up to our arrival was excellent. The guides he arranged in the city, Davide and Christina, were superb, and their passion for the city was... More

We recently arrived home from a fantastic vacation in Italy which began with our arrival in Venice. I booked a transfer from the airport with Igor which involved being met at the airport by a driver and driving to Piazzale Roma where we were met by a water taxi for transport to our hotel. All was arranged by Igor and... More

We just arrived home and wanted to express a very big appreciation and thank you to Igor and his local hosts for all the transfers by private water taxi from the Venice Airport to the hotel then to cruise port and finally to the airport. We also booked the 3 hours walking tour off the beaten path and the gondola... More

Staying in Santa Croce

Neighborhood Profile
Santa Croce
Santa Croce gained importance as a sestiere (district) when Piazzale Roma was created in the 1930s to bring cars and buses close to the center of Venice. Constitution Bridge spans the Grand Canal linking Piazzale Roma to the train station. This area buzzes with energy from travelers and students. Historic palaces and former industrial buildings house some departments of Ca' Foscari and IUAV Architecture universities. On the Fondaco dei Turchi, Venice's Museum of Natural History offers Venetians prehistoric thrills, plus an overview of lagoon fish and wildlife. The Grand Canal, northern boundary of Santa Croce, is lined with palaces and decorated by the tall green dome of San Simeon Piccolo. Ca' Pesaro attracts Venetians to its contemporary art exhibitions. The Grand Canal exposes only one face of these buildings. On the opposite side, the palace often interacts with a square or a busy street to represent its neighborhood identity.
