I began corresponding with Igor about a private tour of Venice for my husband, 12 year old son and myself about a month prior to us arriving in Venice. Igor was fantastic at replying to and suggesting a wonderful itinerary that would encompass all that we wanted to see in this fantastic city. The day of our tour Igor met... More

We were referred to Igor and his tour company through another friend who had used him. Igor was kind, on time, very informative and attentive. We enjoyed our tour around Venice and he was able to cater it to the areas that we wished to focus on. Igor took care of our transportation to and from the airport which was... More

We booked the half day tour with Igor to enable us to see things we may have missed if we had tried to "do it ourselves". We are glad we did, we saw a traditional printer, who works without any computers or websites! - we saw real venetian masks being decorated and Igor even took us to the hospital! -... More

Worked out many aspects of what I needed for the tour. Spent lovely time with Igor and truly got into the artisan / culture of Venezia people. Great tips for getting around and places to eat. Cars to/from airport all on time with friendly drivers. Invaluable insights to many aspects of Venice quarters which we would have walked past otherwise.

Wish we could give Igor and Tour Leader Venice more stars! My husband and I took a 20th anniversary trip to Venice this past March. We thought we would treat ourselves to a private tour and lucked into Igor! He showed us so may hidden and fascinating places that we never would have found ourselves. Igor is such a warm... More

We did the day tour in Venice with Igor, on May 8th. He sent a car to pick us up at our hotel, "out in the burbs" and transported us to Venice. We spent the day on the water, and on the walk ways of Venice. It was a really great day, one of our top two days on a... More

My husband and I spent half a day with Igor and even though the weather was cold and rainy, we still had a wonderful time. Igor met us at our hotel and from that point on took care of everything. We spent the first hour on a private boat tour and then the rest of the afternoon exploring the "off... More

We used Igor for a half day overview tour of Venice. He is a native of Venice and knows a lot of history and more interesting aspects of the city. He met us at our hotel and was right on time. His English skills are excellent. The tour was very interesting and could not be improved on. He was never... More

We booked a tour in the afternoon of 7th April with Igor to go to Murano and Burano. Igor is very friendly and welcomed us warmly. In Murano, he took us to the oldest glass-blowing factory and we had a private glass-blowing demonstration for our group only. It was really good not to be with crowds. Although there was no... We had the pleasure of Igor's company on my wife's birthday last month when he guided us around this amazing city. It honestly felt like we were just going on a walk with an old friend who just happened to know everything there was to know about this incredible place and could answer any question we had. From the moment... More

Staying in Santa Croce

Neighborhood Profile
Santa Croce
Santa Croce gained importance as a sestiere (district) when Piazzale Roma was created in the 1930s to bring cars and buses close to the center of Venice. Constitution Bridge spans the Grand Canal linking Piazzale Roma to the train station. This area buzzes with energy from travelers and students. Historic palaces and former industrial buildings house some departments of Ca' Foscari and IUAV Architecture universities. On the Fondaco dei Turchi, Venice's Museum of Natural History offers Venetians prehistoric thrills, plus an overview of lagoon fish and wildlife. The Grand Canal, northern boundary of Santa Croce, is lined with palaces and decorated by the tall green dome of San Simeon Piccolo. Ca' Pesaro attracts Venetians to its contemporary art exhibitions. The Grand Canal exposes only one face of these buildings. On the opposite side, the palace often interacts with a square or a busy street to represent its neighborhood identity.
