DiscoveringVenice is run by Antonella, Eugenia and Federica. We are Registered Tourist Guides since 2000. We offer a wide range of private tours. We also offer semi-private tours: a perfect way to share costs with other travellers like you. The private tours we organize can be either on foot or by private boat (Gran Canal, small canals, islands of the lagoon - Murano, Burano, Torcello). We are keen to organize customized exclusive tours to make you discover the "hidden Venice" and its back-streets, as well as the monumental classic Venice.

My husband and three children had a wonderful tour with Antonella. She met us at our hotel and as we walked she shared the wonderful history of Venice with our family. The tours of the Piazza, the Basilica and Palace were very comprehensive and the water taxi ride was great fun. Antonella is warm, funny and extremely knowledgable in art... More

Our family of four took a walking tour with Antonella and we thoroughly enjoyed it. We were with one other family and a couple, and the size of the group was just right. Antonella was lovely and gave us a great tour of the the city. Meeting up was easy, and every part of the tour was fascinating. We learned... More

We did a three-hour tour with Patrizia and it was wonderful! We started by walking through some "hidden" places in Venice that were a little off the normal tourist paths, then we went through Doge's Palace, and finally we ended it quite spectacularly with a one-hour private water-taxi tour through lots of different canals. Patrizia was very kind and knowledgeable... More

My wife and I and our four adult children were treated to a great tour of Venice by Patrizia. It was super hot that day and she was still so pleasant. Her English was also very good so that was important to us. Discovering Venice is a collective of independent guides and if the others are like Patricia it is... More

Antonella was an exceptional tour guide. She was engaging, informative, funny and warm. We enjoyed every second of the tour, which was perfectly paced, highly educational and accessible to everyone. She was more than happy to answer questions and was full of knowledge on Venice, its history, sights, culture and traditions. It was a delightful afternoon with Antonella. We highly... More

So glad we done this tour, you see so many when you wanly round the city but this was brilliant as it was so intimate- only 8 in the group! You get an ear piece so you can always hear as it's so busy in places. Great advantage of doing this your is the que jump! God knows how long... More

Patrizia led us through the streets of Venice on June 17th this year. What an experience! We were travelling as a family of 5 (my mother, husband and 2 teenage girls). We couldn't have been more delighted with the entire experience. I'm so pleased we checked trip advisor and found her. Patrizia was so knowledgeable and enthusiastic about her city.... More

We had a great 2 hour walking and a 1 hour boat tour of the Venice neighborhoods with Federica. She was extremely knowledgeable, friendly, and made Venice much more enjoyable!

We have just returned back home from our holiday. We spent one week cruising the Mediterranean. We used DiscoveringVenice - Private Walking Tours for our private shore excursion. Patrizia gave our group an outstanding introduction to Venice. We highly recommend these guides - they really know their job!

We booked a 3 hour tour with Patrizia to see Doges Palace, the Basilica, and take a 1 hour tour by boat through Venice with my wife and three teenage daughters. This was our first trip to Venice, so wanted to see the highlights, while keeping it interesting for the teens. Three hours was perfect. Patrizia kept the tour upbeat... More

Staying in San Marco

Neighborhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
