Just sitting in Harry's Bar and being a part of it's rich history is enough to get your mind imagining all sorts of flights of fancy. The list of famous people who have sat and imbibed in this institution is notable both for their exploits and accomplishments. We just enjoy sitting and people watching...and sipping a Prosecco or Bellini accompanied... More

Harry's Bar is famous so we went - without reading reviews. I understand this is where the Bellini was born but I was so disappointed with the Bar. It was a small, run-down crowded bar. I expected it to have some old-world charm. And the actual bar is TINY. Only 4-6 people can sit at counter/bar. And although it's on... More

In Venice, a visit (or three) is a must. The inventor of the "Bellini" cocktail and "Carpaccio" raw food. Sit upstairs and watch the ships go by. Expensive and varied menu, with sensational deserts. Servers are on the move, they run all day, but they can be trusted to advise you well. I did my usual test to see how... More

Only do this if it is on your "bucket list". I've been in graveyards with more atmosphere! Despite the number of staff, no-one seems to care.

I can drink the Bellini's here all day - great place for a drink - it's a tiny bar - the waitstaff is very nice and friendly.

The prices are extortionate but then you think well at that price it must be good. Think again - small portions - 69 euros for a dessert plate size of carpaccio, 23 euros for a salad and not even very good. Stodgy. Even the drinks were small. If ever a place is living on its reputation this is it -... More

I had read a bit about the history of Harry's before my trip, so I was looking forward to this Friday evening meal. The staff was warm and welcoming and the service was excellent. We ordered two Bellinis and each of us had a pre-set menus (about 65 euros each) and loved everything we had (1. salmon - cuddle fish... More

We were staying at the Baglioni so it's fair to say we don't mind spending money to enjoy an experience, however Harry's bar was easily the biggest disappointment of our trip. The staff are extremely rude and you are made feel as if you are hindrance to them rather than the one who's ultimately paying their wage. Aside from the... More

This very warm and welcoming bar is part of the history of Venice and a lovely story of Giuseppe Cipriani and Harry Pickering. Even though tables were being set for dinner we were assured we could remain at our table as long as we wanted. I had to have a Bellini as this is where it was first made and... More

We stopped in for a Bellini of course...any visit to Venice includes this. The staff are polite and professional and sitting at the bar watching the cocktails being mixed shows just how nay they make; quick, smooth and professional despite the fizzing of the ingredients. You can get a Bellini anywhere but it is nice to have one here, watch... More

Staying in San Marco

Neighborhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
