You go there because you want to sample a piece of history and nostalgia right? You ignore the reviews because you think it can't be that bad right? Wrong! It is awful. The reviews are right. You will be treated as a tourist to be fleeced of as much cash as possible by staff who think they are better than... More

We read the reviews, ignored them and decided to try it anyway, after all we were in Venice ! The wait staff were quite unfriendly with a sense of entitlement. We weren't sure that we were going to be 'allowed' in our welcome was so unfriendly. Once inside, the decor is very 1920's and basic - brown and drab. We... More

Harry's bar is the stuff of legend and is a must visit when in Venice. Famously, the Bellini was invented here and it was certainly the best I've ever tasted. I would recommend a seat at the bar, the staff are incredibly informative and the barman told us a lot of great stories about the history of the place. It... More

Of course one must see the place where Bellini was invented and you can feel the history in this small but beautiful bar. Expect to pay a high price for the drinks but had good food and the drink was worth the expense!!

If you ask yourself: how is the present-day Harry's Bar? The title of this review is the right answer. But I can only blame myself. I was aware of this. I knew the place and I know nothing or very little remains of the fame that over the years it had rightly earned on the field. Many years ago, in... More

Well worth a visit for those familiar with its history and clientele. My wife and I just had a coffee at the bar and the decor is straight out of 1930's.The staff were very nice and informative and even gave us some nibbles on the house. It is quite expensive (Bellini €16.50) but so what?

Situated right on the Grand Canal, with a fantastic view of all comings and goings, sits the iconic Harry's Bar--the birthplace of the Bellini (a tasty peach concoction)! Now this is a hard place to get into, so I'd definitely ask the Concierge of your hotel to make a reservation. A world-renown destination like this is always going to have... More

Birthplace of the Bellini. Haunt of Hemmingway and Capote. Waiters in dapper white jackets. Pretty little bar area. All very casual. Don't bother with any snacks - minimal, basic and hugely over priced. If you're hungry/peckish, have your drink and then head else where. Bellini was delicious, but this is a definite no frills bar.

The fame of the place took us there. After waiting in the street some 10 minutes we got a narrow place in a corner. Restaurant is crowded, noisy and smelling curry. Totally. We just wanted to have a romantic glass of Bellini. Drink arrived in water glasses!!! NOT a place to return...

Harry's Bar can be a bit overwhelming due to its notoriety, but it's definitely worth it. The food is incredible, and it's a great place to people watch. I've been lucky enough to come here with my mom (who has been going to Harry's for over 30 years) and always feel welcome. Make sure to order a bellini!

Staying in San Marco

Neighborhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
