OK, I realize that everything has a price, but sometimes it's just ludicrous. Case in point: Harry's Bar, possibly the most overpriced establishment on earth. The pluses-fantastic location on the lagoon just steps from Saint Mark's. Great history that includes many luminary visits. Posh, upper crust atmosphere. Great view if you sit upstairs near the window as I did. Minuses-price.... More

We decided to pay a visit to this bar as it was mentioned in quite a few guide books. Expected to pay over the odds so the bill came as no surprise. The bar area was very small & gloomy, no atmosphere & nothing that special about the Bellini either. Would not go back & would not recommend!

Ok, it is what you'd expect. Small bar, not very glamorous, but the atmosphere is iconic. The Bellini is very tasty. Go for the experience of it and forget about the price. If you care, don't go. If you care about the wait staff, don't go. We were called "USA" from the moment we walked in. Think we cared?

I had a nice dinner after many years in this famous place. The service is at the highest level and the food is very good.

Second visit to Harry's bar and just as under whelmed this time round. I certainly won;t be going again. Everyone must go to make there mind up about it after all it is an institution however i found it dirty, small, hot, smelly and not the best bellini I had in Venice. I think maybe they have gotten sloppy because... More

The drinks are fine here, costs 2-3 times more than outside but the taste is very good. I spent a big while there, big enough to see the different standards they give to people judging by the look, age, and race. I was not happy with the service that they just act posh but really not at all, really not... More

So, the Bellini was created at Harry's Bar and being a Bellini virgin I was excited to see that there was a Harry's Bar immediately opposite the hotel we were staying at in Venice last week. The guide books talk of the famous actors from the 30s and 40s who frequented the bar and I had an image of glamour... More

Mid-afternoon visit and we only wanted drinks. I suppose the wait staff is tired of that and bored with tourists, because that was the way our group was treated. The drinks were okay, but the prices are unreasonably high. The food menu looked good but again, very pricey. A more authentic Hemingway experience can be had at the Kona Inn... More

We visited on a very busy Friday lunch time. Greeted by a pleasant waitress who sat us at the bar in a room buzzing with activity and which looked exactly as I had imagined it would. Of course we ordered Bellinis which were served by a very entertaining waiter and came with a dish of olives. Price was on par... More

Staying in San Marco

Neighborhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
