It is almost unimaginable to fathom how old the building is and how much manpower went into constructing this amazing landmark. The tour guide transported us back through the years and opened our eyes to the story of this jewel of a basilica. A "must see!"

Plan your time at San Marco's Square and Church for the times when the day trippers and cruise ship people are not there. Afternoons after 2pm seem ideal. The line at St Marks was VERY long in the morning but we walked right in to church around 4 pm with no line. Check what time the church closes however. Give... More

The history and works of art contained in this Basilica are definitely worth your time in Venice. This is a must see place. I highly recommend seeing it with a guide that understands the history and significance of this structure to be able to fully appreciate what you are looking at. Our guide through Walks of Italy was fantastic. She... More

I love history, so is suspicious I explain why this basilica is so beautiful. One thing that i dislike was the doves. They are dirty.

Beautiful, but ridiculously crowded. Get online tickets in advance, otherwise you will spend hours waiting in line. Totally worth it.

I agree with the previous reviewers that it is a tragedy to see so many groups and tourists disrespect the rules established to recognise this as the holy place that it is and take multiple photographs and constant chatter amongst themselves even while in our case there was a communion service taking place

Really wanted to go into this beautiful landmark but got refused entry as I was wearing shorts (despite the fact men were able to wear shorts and go in). Word of warning - girls, if it's a warm day and you're wearing shorts that dont reach your knees (ie what most young girls would wear in summer) then don't line... More

This church is indeed stunning. The golds and blues were mesmerizing. I wasn't able to navigate the whole place because of the choking number of tours (they need to limit these!!) that blocked aisles and even the exit for a while. I couldn't get out until they'd all cleared - very annoying. You can sit in the side chapel which... More

Enjoyed the refreshing approach with out an entry fee only to then find charges for specific areas; the balcony, the golden area behind the altar, the museum of 'treasures' etc. Agree with production line comments - no seating available (one small section for prayers) so difficult to absorb grandeur on the move.
