The best time to see the Grand Canal is late evening when the vaporetti are less crowded. The locals only want to sit down inside, so get on first (be first in the queue just after a boat has just left) and push up to the bow area. The boats are least busy from San Marco - San Zaccaria or... More

Fun, authentic, practical, wisely used by locals so they must be right. You can get a Vaporetto city pass that include plenty free museum entry as well. You will have the best view at the San Marco's & all the Pallacios.

The end of September was beautiful on the Grand Canal. The weather was comfortable and I was pleased that the water was beautiful during our stay. We utilized the 3 day Vaporetto pass and went up and down the canal, making stops and hopping on and off as we pleased, as well as Girri Citta (circular tour around the islands).

We started with the Rialto Bridge and its shops then a walk along the canal it's amazing how busy it is and to watch the skill of the boat handling was unbelievable. There are plenty of attractions just off the canal. Well worth a few hours of your... More
