We were all set to pay for a gondola ride, but actually found we had just a good view from the Vaporetto. Line 1 takes you all the way from one end of the Grand Canal to another.

Though the stereotypical tourist attraction in Venice, a Gondola was not to be missed. Although it was 80EUR for 40min it was the highlight of an amazing trip! Really recommend it!

Our gondolier popped out onto the Grand Canal a couple of times for an extra €20 and it was well worth it. And you seethe canal in its fullest splendour, low to the water. More so than from the Vaporetti

Of course you can't avoid the Grand Canal if you visit Venice, but from pictures I'd seen, I expected it to be much less intimate and picturesque than it actually was. In fact I'd say our time spent on the canal was the highlight of our time in Venice, from our arrival from the airport via water taxi, to our... More

Always a pleasure to visit it and see the beautiful buildings floating on the water. Seems to be too many taxis nowadays.

A walk alongside the Grand Canal allows you to slowly soak up the atmosphere. First in quiet alleys and then suddenly you are in the busy tourist throng. Well worth the walk and then take a waterbus from one end to the other, to see the view from the water. Particularly the depleted grandeur of the old palaces and gorgeous... More

The grand canal is a majestic canal to behold, with the busy traffic of the Vaparetto (water bus), Gondala, postmen, delivery guys, rowers and all who travel it. The main thoroughfare of Venice provides access to all the areas of the city, and has some majestic buildings alongside its waterside. There are also lots of places / piers to sit... More
