The name Grand pretty much says it all, the richest people in Venice had their Palazzos along this canal. There is a movie called "Dangerous Beauty" - which is racy because it is a story about the end of the age of the courtesans - it is a true story of Marco Venier & Veronica Franco - his palace is... Especially when children are a part of the group, suggest that their price is too elevated to bare when you have a big family to maintain. Negociate your price and go early, before the masses of tourists are leaving their hotels. A pitty that sometimes in the side canales garbadge floats arround.

Definitely a highlight of any visit to Venice. Given the crowded vaporettos, the best time to cruise it is early in the morning or later in the evening. The atmosphere the Canal Grande provides is overwhelming as is the amount of nice palaces and side canals passing by. It lets the visitor dream of the time Venice has been a... More

I really want to go there again. The whole experience with the boats all-over the water, the streets, narrow streets with restaurants and shops.Very romantic too.

Cruising the Grand Canal is one of those "musts" on the bucket list. We cruised it on the Vaporetto a few times. We just went up and down looking at all the grand homes and hotels, etc. It is just indescribably good. Words just cannot express the beauty of the Grand Canal. It's something one must do while on this... More

Best is to go early in the morning where there is no rush and quite. It is beautiful to be in Venice...lovely place. The city can't be described in few words, you need to be there to feel it...

cruising up and down the Garnd Canal on the luxurious Dell 'Art with a headset commentary instead of on the very crowded standard water bus was well worth the few extra Euros!

We bought the 48 hour vaporetto unlimited ride ticket and it turned out to be a great value. We went up and down the Grand Canal for transportation and with a podcast "guide" Very beautiful buildings with lots of history.

Hard to add anything new to the legend and fame of this avenue, but must add some suggestions. Early morning or later evening for the best experience on a vaporetto. Expect noise and congestion during the day - live with it and accept the flow of the city. Cicchetti and Spritz (ask for and you will enjoy) by the canal... More
