Venice's most important waterway is always crowded but definitely worth to discover, either from the banks of the river or by taking a vaporetto. The advantage when going by boat is that you can view all the stunning palazzos at the bank of the river. Great experience!

Vaparettos are now about $9 USD per ride. The canal is busy with boat traffic, but it remains scenic. Just gets expensive doing the water buses.

once you get to Venice the way to get around the city it's the canal .we took the Vaporeto everywhere it's $7.00 euros each way but if you buy the day pass $20.00 euros it's better for you and your wallet.

We took vaporetto on Grand Canal, was fun to watch all the canal traffic, and bustling activity. This is the heart of the old Venice....a great do not miss location

This is the highway of Venice! Very beautiful even with all the boat taxi's and shuttles. Make sure to catch it at sunset from the Rialto Bridge!

I have seen the Grand Canal in many movies and it was great to see it in person. Yes Venice is over run with tourists but taking a trip on the Grand Canal is a must. A water taxi is best if funds allow as then it's not so crowded. I did this aa part of a tour so not... More

Toured the grand canal on the local water bus. 20E to ride all day. Easy off and on. There is a lot a traffic, between the water taxis, the bus and the gondolas, so docking delays are possible. Gives a great view of the architecture and little canals that come and go off the grand canal. The power boats zip... More

We arrived in Venice on the Marina cruise ship via the Grand Canal! What an amazing hour trip into Venice! The buildings, hotels and churches line both sides and Each is more glorious than the next. You can take a ride on the Grand Canal by catching a water taxi or go on a private water taxi. You can also... More
