When you arrive in Venice through Santa Lucia station, don't peak, walk straight to the main entrance and look into the Grand Canal for the first time: You will cry. The feeling of being inside one of the most beautiful places in the world is overwhelming. That moment you see the Grand canal for the first time stays with your... More

We bought a water bus 24 hour ticket which was 20 euros and this worked so well. We visited the lido and each island and spent hours just travelling the canals, hopping off the boats to see what was around. Beautiful!

The Bridge of Sighs (below - the torture rooms and cells. and above the bridge) St. marks square expensive but non the less a true experience. All the... More

Loved watching the people, boats and sights along the canal. Don't think I would ride a gondola along grand canal...too much boat traffic and rough water.

Take the local boat-bus and see the beautiful city as it should be seen. Since it is a local bus, don´t go during rush hour.

Take a ride down the grand canal at night.... enchanting! I found myself imagining what it must have been like to live here centuries ago.

Once at the Grand Canal you have a number of transportation choices. You can take a larger ferry that makes numerous stops or a more romantic boat.

The system of canals makes Venice what it is! The views are fantastic, especially in the late evening. Lined by all kinds of historic, elegant buildings, a leisurely ride on the canal is essential to experience Venice. The Vaporettos are not expensive and provide an excellent ride. If you feel like indulging you could use a water taxi. The big... More
