Like a couple of other reviewers we usually never take tours, but we had only a couple of days in Venice and didn't want to waste any of our time "wandering and getting lost" as some of the travel books recommend. SO glad that we chose this tour as Karen was an extremely knowledgeable "new local" and was able to... More

Upon arriving in Venice we took a Chiccehtti tour with Karen. It was the best thing we could have done. We got to walk and eat our way around Venice with someone that knew so much about Venice. Karen is a lovely and warm person, who is passionate about Venice and sharing what It has to offer. She took us... More

What an exceptional day with Karen on a 6 hour tour. She most graciously extended it to 8 hours just so we could truly experience all of it. When Karen shares her insights into this remarkable city her passion for Venice becomes yours. Being an expat from New Jersey means you can clearly understand all the tips and stories she... More

If you are looking for neat corners and pics of Venice along a 6 mile walk this is a good tour. If you are looking for the history and insights of the buildings, culture, history, etc this is not the tour. This is basically an urban hike through Venice with Mike that does not speak any Italian...which, in our opinion,... More

We’re sorry we didn’t meet this client’s expectations. We encourage potential clients to read the website carefully to get an understanding of what the tour is, and what it is not. Our tours are 100% private. Mr. V. and his family (six altogether) were met at their apartment, and brought back to it at the end of the tour. In... More

Mike gave the four of us a Backstreet tour of Venice and we were so impressed. He answered questions about the locals, the health care, the food, etc. He walked us through the local streets without tourists, or noise. We LOVED this Venice! We saw local fruit markets, wine shops and beautiful streets, waterways and parks. He was easy going,... More

Karen was the best! A 6 hour walking tour that went by too fast. The personal tour (4 of us) took us into the Venice only " special " visitors get to see.

Karen is from New Jersey so it is really easy to understand her versus having an Italian tour guide whose second language is English. Trust me on this especially if you don't understand accents well. She and her husband have a great story on what brought them to Venice and they have such passion for the city of Venice I... More

What a day in Venice- truly an experience our family will remember! Karen toured our family ( children 14,16, 17, husband and I) along the back streets of Venice showing us significant and interesting parts of the city- it was a photographic journey we did not expect. We talked her into having lunch with us because we were having so... More

Dealing with Mike and Karen was such a pleasure. We had Mike for the Cicchetti crawl. Mike was filled with interesting information and most importantly took us to the best foodie spots. The conversation and wine flowed! Easily one of our top tours in all our travels. Michael and Gayle

We did the Backstreets tour with these guys, and it was perfect. Mike was knowledgeable and interesting, flexible enough to accommodate our needs, and the tour really was first rate. We went in a group of two, and so all our questions were answered which doesn't happen when you are herded through in the tourist masses in a group of... More

Staying in Castello

Neighborhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighborhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
