We had 2 full day tours on Oct 22 and 23. Booked with them as they were highly recommended in quite a few sites that offer tips for handicapped travelers. Venice is all they say about not being easy for chair users. We were a group of 4 seniors, 2 needing the use of wheelchairs. First day with Mike was... More

We booked with The Venice Experience based on a tripadvisor friend's recommendation, and we were delighted with the experience. Karen worked with me and planned a custom tour that included backstreets and cicchetti stops. We arrived in Venice on a Friday morning and scheduled the tour for late that afternoon. It worked out perfectly to help orient us to the... More

I should have posted this earlier, but the memory is still strong - these 2 tours were highlights of our Venice visit. We have visited many times, but Karen and Mike showed us parts of Venice we had never seen, and their history knowledge is fantastic! We had a cicchetti tour, and then a night photography tour with Mike. Both... More

My wife Janet and I did the Backstreets of Venice tour with Karen on October 11, 2015. She is well-spoken and quite charming, and entertained and educated us the whole time. Highly recommended for photogs and history buffs alike. She gave us a great understanding of how Venice has evolved over the last several hundred years, and painted a picture... More

Well worth the price to skip the lines. The tour guides were excellent! I highly recommend taking tours! Saw and heard so much more as they pointed out "things" that the eye wouldn't if picked up! I will definitely use a guide again!

We took the Backstreets of Venice tour with Karen and loved every minute of it. Karen is extremely knowledgeable and was able to answer all of our questions. She showed us all the places you wouldn't see on a normal tour and we learned much about how the Venetians actually live, where they live and shop, etc. It was great... More

The two tours were great! The walking tour was well organized and easy to find the starting point. The tour was punctual and finished on the proposed hour. this gave us enough time to browse for ourselves and have a lunch at our leisure before the Boat tour started. The guides on both were fluent in English and provided great... More

Neil and I just loved our 'backstreets' tour with Karen. It's much less like a 'tour' and more like being shown the places that only a local would know about by a friend. Karen was knowledgeable, engaging and a real pleasure to wander the streets with. She is a fount of all knowledge and was able to field all the... More

Karen met us at the agreed location and from the introductions to the end this tour was everything we had hoped it would be. Karen gives you a glimpse inside of the real Venice, away from the tourism driven sights and crowds. Before this tour we thought we'd seen all we wanted to of Venice and thanks to Karen we... More

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our recent tour with Karen. We could have tried to wonder around ourselves, but most likely we would have gotten lost. More importantly, Karen pointed out things to us that we would not have known anything about. For example, you will have to take the tour to find out why there is poured cement... More

Staying in Castello

Neighborhood Profile
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighborhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
