Venice Experience

Karen was the best! A 6 hour walking tour that went by too fast. The personal tour (4 of us) took us into the Venice only " special " visitors get to see.

Karen is from New Jersey so it is really easy to understand her versus having an Italian tour guide whose second language is English. Trust me on this especially if you don't understand accents well. She and her husband have a great story on what brought them to Venice and they have such passion for the city of Venice I... More

What a day in Venice- truly an experience our family will remember! Karen toured our family ( children 14,16, 17, husband and I) along the back streets of Venice showing us significant and interesting parts of the city- it was a photographic journey we did not expect. We talked her into having lunch with us because we were having so... More

Dealing with Mike and Karen was such a pleasure. We had Mike for the Cicchetti crawl. Mike was filled with interesting information and most importantly took us to the best foodie spots. The conversation and wine flowed! Easily one of our top tours in all our travels. Michael and Gayle

We did the Backstreets tour with these guys, and it was perfect. Mike was knowledgeable and interesting, flexible enough to accommodate our needs, and the tour really was first rate. We went in a group of two, and so all our questions were answered which doesn't happen when you are herded through in the tourist masses in a group of... More

Let me start by saying we don't do tours. I am a travel geek and love to find things out for myself. Having said that I knew I could handle all the touristy things in Venice but with only two days in town I wanted to dive a little deeper with very limited time. Researching I found the Venice Experience... More

We visited Venice in June 2015 and was afraid that 3 days there was too long. We had a tour with Karen, and she showed us a completely different side of Venice we never thought we would like. She took us to places where no English was spoken and you could get a true experience of what life is like... More

Karen was awesome. We only had one day in Venice, and we were so glad we chose The Venice Experience. We spent 4 hours with Karen. She was so knowledgable. Her love of Venice shows every step of the tour. We learned so much about the city and the culture.

Venice is a beautiful place, provided you don't think the area around St Mark's Square represents the Venice the reidents know. We met Mike at 9am at the designated Vaporetto stop and for the next 3 hours (or so) we walked the area in the eastern part of Venice. This is where the residents live - not a selfie stick... More

My wife and I traveled to Italy (June 2015) to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. We wanted to learn more about Italy but also relax. Mike provided us the experience we were looking for. We reserved the 4 hour walking tour but then later added the 3 hour cicchetti tour for a total of 7 hours. We arrived in Venice... More

Staying in Castello

Neighborhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighborhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
