Context provides an in-depth alternative to traditional tours. We are a network of architects, historians, art historians, and other specialists who organize over 300 different walks in 15 cities around the world. Florence teaches that art does not exist in a vacuum. Here in the churches, palaces, and other Renaissance-era institutions we encounter art in its original setting enveloped by social and political context.

Our family (children ages 13, 10, and 7) had an outstanding Lion Hunt tour with Context Travel. The tour lasted three hours, giving us the history and current day information about Venice. The tour focused on lion statues, which we discovered are all over Venice. We had a contest and learned about each lion & it's history as we found... More

Our final evening in Venice could not have ended on a better note! We took the Venice by Boat tour with docent Louisa Warman, who provided us with a magical two hours discovering places we had not seen and learning fascinating facts that just added to our interest and enjoyment. Louisa was not just a delightful docent with a wonderful... More

We've taken a Context Tour in every city we could - at least one in fact. It's a wonderful way to see things you wouldn't think of seeing and getting intelligent and thoughtful insights into the city you are visiting and the sites you are seeing. We took an island tour (Murano and Torcello) and did it as a Private... More

We had a fabulous tour with Susan Steer at Basilica San Marco. She made the tour so fascinating with her vast knowledge and personable style. It was so interesting and we learned so much that we wanted to book another tour with her had we been there longer. We like the fact that Context Tours has highly educated tour guides... More

Many years ago we went on a Context tour to the Roman Forum, etc. which was excellent. Last week we enjoyed another excellent Context offering with Louisa as she guided our three generation family through the quiet areas of Venice as we learned about daily living. Louisa used props, maps and her art history background to keep our family engaged... More

We went with Nadia on a family tour - she was very engaging and kept my kids interested the whole time- she was very well informed and patient with all our questions. We could never have gotten all that info from a guidebook- will never travel to Europe again without booking a tour with this company

Context's "Lion Hunt" tour of Venice was fantastic. This was our visit time in Venice and our tour guide, Giovanna, was a perfect match for our family. Having young boys of her own, she knew just how to approach ours right from the start. They loved having control of the map and figuring out which way to move about the... More

This was my first time taking a wine and food tour, I will say that these are now my favorite kind of tours. Although it was a wine tour there were lots of incredibly tasty appetizers which our knowledgable guide Tamora did a great job explaining how to pair with our wine selections. Wine has never seemed so interesting to... More

We made this tour one of our bigger expenses and it was worth it. Our guide was an art hisotry major and also a vatican guide, she still loves her work and we could feel it. The help getting into the shorter lines was great, as was getting in the first tour at 8:15. She helped us really feel not... More

This tour was absolutely all encompassing and modeled excellently. I absolutely loved the wine and all the wonderful dishes that our Somalia Tamora chose for us. She made us feel like we were all friends for years and was just having wine and food out like any other normal day. By far, one of my favorite tours and I learned... More
