Context provides an in-depth alternative to traditional tours. We are a network of architects, historians, art historians, and other specialists who organize over 300 different walks in 15 cities around the world. Florence teaches that art does not exist in a vacuum. Here in the churches, palaces, and other Renaissance-era institutions we encounter art in its original setting enveloped by social and political context.

My family has just had a lovely morning in the San Marco area of Venice with our guide Nadia Mazzone, booked through Context Tours. The Lions Tour option was just perfect for our needs. Using the pretext of a 'spot the Lion' game Nadia kept our kids engaged and entertained whilst also imparting a lot of knowledge about Venetian history,... More

Nikat, Thank you for your feedback. You put your finger on the challenge with family walks: How to keep kids and adults both engaged. Glad to hear Nadia hit the mark. She's a real talent. We look forward to seeing you and your family in any of the other cultural capitals where Context operates. Best, Context More

While our Venice tour was only a few hours, our Context guide Matteo made it a fantastic experience. Our family took the Lion Hunt (Family Orientation) and found it to be fun and informative. Matteo took us off the beaten path through the back alleys and hidden gems outside of the fray of St. Mark's square. Even in the popular... More

We did a wine dinner and a walking tour in Venice and were extremely impressed with the quality of each. It was like we had gotten reacquainted with a forgotten relative who had a Ph.D. in Art History and moved to Venice twenty years ago. There were no questions that they couldn't answer in precise detail and with proper decorum.... More

This was a great way to be introduced to wines from the Veneto region as well as the history of wine in Venice. The guide took it upon herself to learn a bit about us and pointed out aspects of the city that would peak our individual interests. She was kind, professional and genuine without working from a script. A... More

We participated in the Ecology of Venice walking tour in early April, and it was a fascinating way to spend several hours. Our guide was Luca, a coastal oceanographer and geologist. Clearly, Luca was extremely knowledgeable about the issues he was discussing, and he enjoyed sharing what he knew. He was very willing to answer questions, whether or not they... More

This family-friendly tour in the back streets of Venice was excellent....a little history, a little culture, and a lot of fun stories to keep the kids interested. Very professional and prepared guide who was also good at picking up on when the kids' attention span was wearing thin and customizing the tour to their taste. Very highly recommend!

I have used Context all over Europe. I have found them to be most informative, in depth, and engaging group I have ever used. To say they are a tour company in not accurate. They are there to educate you not drag you around the sites. I promise you you will not be sorry and will walk away with a... More

We had a lovely early evening boat tour of Venice with Louisa who was wonderful with our 8 year old step son. The boat was a classic wooden limo which we loved and Louisa and the driver were very flexible and accommodating. Great service overall from Context.

We took a private 3 hour walking tour through this neighborhood with Louisa Warman of Context Tours. The experience was totally satisfying. As a repeat visitor to Venice we were looking for tours which would take us through the less visited neighborhoods of Venice, rather than the standard tourist attractions and we were not disappointed. Louisa is personable, knowledgeable and... More

We took 2 tours with Context: Vasari Corridor in Florence and evening Vatican Museum/Sistine Chapel in Rome. We were joined by 2-3 others on each tour and really valued the small group experience. Both guides were knowledgable and had completed graduate academic work related to the historical information they were describing. The guides were attentive to our needs and personalized... More
