Context provides an in-depth alternative to traditional tours. We are a network of architects, historians, art historians, and other specialists who organize over 300 different walks in 15 cities around the world. Florence teaches that art does not exist in a vacuum. Here in the churches, palaces, and other Renaissance-era institutions we encounter art in its original setting enveloped by social and political context.

The entire experience of the Context tour was excellent. I had not heard about the organization before and discovered it by accident as I was looking for things to do in Venice. Our tour guide Luca Zaggia was so knowledgeable and passionate about the ecological issues facing Venice and the planet. He was personable and spoke very clearly about the... More

Imagine engaging teen aged girls, their mom, her best friend whom she met in graduate school at Yale and the best friend's husband who has a big personality and no patience for boredom. Context docents did that four times over Christmas week (when the tourists are away but so many key pieces of tours might also be less accessible.) We... More

I too did the Ecology of Venice with Luca and his tour was amazing! He is incredibly knowledgeable on the subject having conducted many of studies on Venice and the lagoon. He is extremely articulate and customized our tour based on our interests. He also wove in his insider's knowledge of Venice to make it an insider's view of Venice.... More

We also had a fantastic tour with Luca (see below). Ours was the in depth Scince and Secrets of the Lagoon. What a great experience! If you are interested in the topic as described on the website, you will be very happy--an experience of a lifetime.

We have been to Venice many times but the Comtext Tours a unique perspective. Luca, a marine biologist deeplyinvolved in addressing the chronic issues Venice faces, was very helpful in enabling us to understand the ecology of Venice. On a second tour focused on Cannaregio, Cynthia provide us the opportunity to meet with highly successful, craftsmen and to better understand challenges... More

We only had a short time in Venice so we wanted to make the most of it. We opted for the morning tour for Architecture of Venice. It was led by Susan, who was extremely knowledgeable as well as personable. There was only one other couple on the tour which made it very intimate. There was a lot packed into... More

We have become Context "junkies", having used their services during our travels in Rome and Florence last year. Visiting a city without making the effort and taking the time to really understand what you are seeing and the reasons behind it is to only partially experience that city. Context Travel uses highly qualified and educated guides to impart a fuller... More

Our 3.5 hour walking tour was outstanding. Matteo was a wonderful guide who had a thorough understanding of Venetian architecture and a great ability to present an interesting and educational story. I give architecture tours in Chicago and had very specific questions, all of which Matteo answered with ease and grace. He managed to satisfy my need for detailed information... More

We'd requested a custom walking tour focused on the basilica alone for my wife and me plus my 70-something parents. Context quickly and effectively responded to the request--and provided specifics as to where to meet our docent-guide. Nadia Mazzon proved to be the perfect representation of what we needed. She was warm, engaging, knowledgeable, and generally superb. She set forth... More

Our family (children ages 13, 10, and 7) had an outstanding Lion Hunt tour with Context Travel. The tour lasted three hours, giving us the history and current day information about Venice. The tour focused on lion statues, which we discovered are all over Venice. We had a contest and learned about each lion & it's history as we found... More
