Insights into exotic Mediterranean landscapes and views of the surrounding mountain chains and sun-kissed Merano: The Gardens of Trauttmansdorff Castle comprises eighty natural and cultivated landscapes nestled into a natural amphitheatre, a wide array of themed gardens, and numerous Artist Pavilions and Experience Stations. Visitors find the extraordinary combination of nature, culture and art at South Tyrol's most popular attraction absolutely enchanting. The interplay of historical and contemporary architecture, a rich variety of events, and seasonal blooming throughout the course of the year all make Trauttmansdorff an experience for all five senses and for visitors of all ages. After being named Italy's Most Beautiful Garden in 2005 and Europe's No. 6 Garden in 2006, Trauttmansdorff was honored with the International Garden of the Year award in 2013, thus joining the ranks of the world's most important and beautiful gardens and parks. The Touriseum, the spirited museum housed inside Trauttmansdorff Castle, now spotlights recent tourism history and features new exhibits about the castle's VIP guests.

A fantastic botanical garden that offers something for everyone, a great place to visit if you have a few hours to spare. Ticket prices were 12 Euros per adult (and a few Euros for parking) with a map included. Though we didn't visit the castle the gardens were more than enough, just make sure to wear comfortable walking shoes as... More

We were arriving in Merano after having driven over the Timmelsjoch mountain pass. Our original plan was a quick visit to these gardens, but in the end we stayed for 5 hours and just skipped the town visit of Merano. The gardens are just beautiful and well maintained, the castle is scenic and the surrounding area is just stunning. The... More

With only a few hours to spare we had time only to scratch the surface of this amazing place on the way to Verona airport barely time enough it take in the immensity of these wonderful gardens. So we return on the 11th and 12th September 2016 - So good it deserves a proper visit!

I have been to place a few times and I am always blown away by the variety of plants and how well presented it is. One can spend days wondering around. Each season offers a different perspective. A must see for any visitor to Merano with a car. My only comment is that it is not cheap, but then it... More

The botanical gardens are so beautiful. Great place for lunch. Castle is interesting and contains displays of how the castle was used over time. Try to walk there from the village on the old pathways.

This is a garden very worthwhile visiting if you are in the vicinity. We didn't enter the castle just the very extensive and partly terraced gardens with multiple themed areas, in excellent condition. Much to learn and discover

I could have spent the whole day here. The gardens and views are amazing! Be sure to go early before it gets hot. you will need at least 2-3 hours to see the whole thing. Book 3 hours and have a snack in one of the great restaurants here. ( I ate at both places. ) It is VERY hilly.... More

I had not realized that the castle had been turned into a museum focusing on the history of tourism and was not a restored castle with furnishings. That topic was not of interest to me, so I did not spend much time in the castle. The gardens were very nice, but most of the flowers were not in season at... More
