I personally didn't like it, as it's about Himalaya, and I expected it to be about the local mountains. The price is excessive and it's full of merchandising of Reinhold Messner....

This museum is created to reflect the achievements and contribution Rheinhold Messner has made to mountaineering during his nearly seventy years. I wish him a very happy birthday for next month! It is a mixture of mountaineering and art displays form the different places that have touched Messner's life. The BoBus shuttle service (€2) brings you here from Piazza Walther... More

I found this museum amazing. In fact, two days later I'm stilled boggled by it. I should say im not a mountineer, or climber. I have no "special relationship" to the mountains. Although the displays here make it clear that humanity has a powerful spirtual and physical relation to mountains. The old fortress makes a powerful base for the museum,... More

I actually found this museum a bit boring. Many parts of it were more like Messner's personal art collection. The parts I loved the most were where he had beautiful quotes about Mountain philosophy and buddhism. The view and the spirituality of the place was very inspiring.

The Sigmundskronerstr Castle outside Bolzano is the foundation of the Messner Museum. Every corner is filled with either mountaineering history and paraphernalia or huge sacred statues, many of Buddha, giant crystals. It is all fascinating, inspiring, and humbling. I wish I could have seen the rest of the Messner Museums!

I was expecting something nice and interesting, instead it was much more! A stunning experience, it is like a trip on the mountains and through time. It could be tiring since there are many places to explore by stairs and I was carrying my son of 18 kg. The museum is very pleasant to visit, even for children, it has... More

Being a climber and Himalayan junkie, I had wanted to visit the various MMM Museums in Sud Tirol for a long time. The Firmian Museum is a fantastic location, great subject, but they need to consider the English speaking tourists a bit more. I already knew a lot about the displays from my own past travels but it was very... More

This museum is beautifully done...medieval stone is used as a backdrop to Asian art, mountain culture and spirituality. Battlements house prayer wheels and tankas. Climbing equipment is displayed with hundreds of paintings from all over the world. The small restaurant provides a fitting end experience...we planned on an hour or so and enjoyed three.

This museum is definitely worth a stop if you are into mountains, ice and mountaineering. There are lots of pictures of mountains. If you're not really into mountains, you might be disappointed.

We wanted to visit the castle and weren't put off by learning a few stories about Messner, but MMM is just a huge letdown: There was so little historical information about the castle and it's importance for the region, it isn't really worth mentioning. There was also little information about the archaeological museum objects. We furthermore didn't learn anything about... More
