We were in the tourist bureau in Bolzano to pick up some general information and were asked if we had visited the Messner Museum. If we hadn't, the bus was leaving in 10 minutes and for 2 euros you can ride up to the museum. The museum is in a ruined castle and tries to simulate a small mountain climb... More

Fantastic views abound from the Castle walls. The museum displays are varied, beautiful, and interesting with full explanations in Italian, German, and English. Climibing, religion, art, and nature are the focal points and executed almost flawlessly. The entire family loved this visit.

I am a big fan of Messner, whom I consider to be an amazing athlete, so this visit was special. I was surprised how diverse the exhibits were, some on the political history of the area. There was a lot of poetry, Buddhism and art mixed in with a little on mountaineering. That's fine, it's his expression and was presented... More

We got a ticket for the Bo-Bus for 2 Euros, and were able to tour around the city. We made a stop at the Messner Museum and toured the exhibits there. We found it to be very interesting and well worth the time it takes to go through. Allow a couple of hours. Unfortunately, we were there on a very... More

Reinhold Messner's Mountaun Museum is a wonder - magnificent collection of artifacts and art from his world wide travels, displayed in a reclaimed castle in a highly inventive and powerful way. The result is a mesmerizing and visually stunning experience. Highly recommend.

I personally didn't like it, as it's about Himalaya, and I expected it to be about the local mountains. The price is excessive and it's full of merchandising of Reinhold Messner....

This museum is created to reflect the achievements and contribution Rheinhold Messner has made to mountaineering during his nearly seventy years. I wish him a very happy birthday for next month! It is a mixture of mountaineering and art displays form the different places that have touched Messner's life. The BoBus shuttle service (€2) brings you here from Piazza Walther... More

I found this museum amazing. In fact, two days later I'm stilled boggled by it. I should say im not a mountineer, or climber. I have no "special relationship" to the mountains. Although the displays here make it clear that humanity has a powerful spirtual and physical relation to mountains. The old fortress makes a powerful base for the museum,... More

I actually found this museum a bit boring. Many parts of it were more like Messner's personal art collection. The parts I loved the most were where he had beautiful quotes about Mountain philosophy and buddhism. The view and the spirituality of the place was very inspiring.

The Sigmundskronerstr Castle outside Bolzano is the foundation of the Messner Museum. Every corner is filled with either mountaineering history and paraphernalia or huge sacred statues, many of Buddha, giant crystals. It is all fascinating, inspiring, and humbling. I wish I could have seen the rest of the Messner Museums!
