We visited Orta a couple of weeks ago for 5 days with our daughter (9). We have been once before (in March) and I have to say this is an amazing area full of wonderful views / places to eat / people. If you do visit you will not be disappointed!

having visited Garda, Como, Mergozzo, Maggiore and all more than once Orta takes the prize:along with its island Isola San Guilio of course its tourist and it isnt cheap but the approach by boat from Omegna (about an hour) was a real treat from the main square by the boats facing the lake walk to the left past the shops... Visit the lake of Orta, go to the small island of San Giulio, so ancient and fascinating, walk through the old streets of Orta, climb the Mottarone and reach the Lake Maggiore, go all around the lake, stop in Brolo and then at the Church of the Madonna del Sasso for a breathtaking view of the entire lake! You will... More

The scenery is great. The Lake is beautiful, a little, uncrowded and quiet gem of Italys Lakes. In warm weather watch the speed boats, water skiing and children just messing about in boats. Lake Orta was a place English Victorians used to come to during the winter to escape the English weather. Reminders of them still remain, red Postboxes ect.

Take boat trips all over it. Visit Orta and walk the "spit". People-watch. Great little cafés and restaurants. Parking is well catered for.

What a impressing area! Walking around in peace, amzing views onto the lake, clearest water to enjoy swimming. Nice narrow streets to walk through, closed to cars, quiet, having a look at different little shops, having nice snacks and icecreams, sitting in cafes. Unbeatable!

If you enjoy old places with houses built in stones for walls and roofs, and with narrow streets, then go there, it is a good surprise. Walk in the streets. This village is located on the coastline of the Orta lake with the San Giulo island not so far. You can take a boat to visit this island if you... More

We swam, ate looked at and loved all around this beautiful place. You need transport as there didn't seem to be any public transport to get around. The place has traditional shops and eateries dotted around it. San Giullio peninsula is stunning, shops ,Gellaterias, bars etc in beautiful surroundings. You have to go.

Crystal clear waters were amazing. Some of the local villages were great to walk around and do a little shopping.

Lake Orta is a romantic pace especially when staying in San Giulio. You feel like stepping back in time in the little town, narrow roads and friendly people. There's not a lot to do, a trip to the monastery and nice walks, otherwise sitting and relaxing with local bar snacks and chilled white wine is just a perfect way to... More
