We had very little time to spend in Milan but we decided to come here because it's the most important plaza. Very beautiful, took pictures in front of the Cathedral which has wonderful sculpture work in it's facade.

A pretty square with the fantastic and very photographic Duomo. Be careful if you are hungry or thirsty as it's a considerable walk until you find something reasonable. In some places it can cost you 8 Euro just to sit down.

Beware of men carrying a bundle of strings with west African accents. These men approach a child and will tie a string around their wrist indicating it is "good luck". They then demand money to the tune of several euros. Have not seen this scam in other European cities so beware in the tourist areas of Milan especially. The men... More

Now fully restored the Cathedral is absolutely 'Magnifico', and the Galleria has also been reinvigorated as well. The Cathedral is now 'blinding white' and a visit to Milan would be quite empty without a visit.

The Historic section is very small. There's only 3 things to see but they are majestic. The Duomo, the Galleria, and La Scala. We used to travel back home though Malpensa Airport. The restaurants in the area are terrific ( not inside the Galleria). We would stay at the Hotel Brunelleschi which is right on the square, and take a... More

If you visit the cathedral be sure to pay the little bit extra and go up to the roof. This totally blew my mind. I just can't fathom how people were able to construct such an incredible building. I visited on a Sunday and there was some kind of church service happening. This was really interesting to watch. The organ... More

I visited the Duomo for the first time in 2004 (renovation was ongoing) - and what a change it has gone through. The cathedral stands very impressively on the Piazza del Duomo - and with the statues on the roof and the impressive interior you understand why it took more than six centuries to complete the cathedral itself. The piazza... More

The Church is beautiful even the roof. The roof is charming and has many artistic features even lovely statues that you won't want to miss. There are elevators that will take you to the roof. You will probably spend more time on the roof enjoying it's beauty than inside the Church which is also beautiful. When you finish walk from... More

Everything is happening in the Piazza. The street hawkers, the newlyweds getting their pictures taken, the tourists just taking a look at one of the most beautiful churches in the world… people watching at its best. And the Galleria is adjacent. Very easy way to spend a few hours finding dolce vita.

Whilst we much preferred it at night-time, the Duomo Square never ceased to delight us, as we cross-crossed it numerous times on the way between our hotel and the numerous places and restaurants we visited! Take time out for the magnificent Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II with its glorious people-watching (a shopping arcade, to us - n.b. our one coffee, one... More

Staying in Centro Storico

Neighborhood Profile
Centro Storico
The pulsating core of Milan is in Centro. Duomo Square is enclosed by the gothic cathedral, the historic icon of Milan. However, shopping is what draws most crowds to this area. The classy and versatile Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II with luxury boutiques and high quality restaurants will turn any shopping or lunch expedition into a royal experience. Head to the rooftop of the flagship La Rinascente to enjoy the view of the animated square with a panorama of the Duomo. The Corso Vittorio Emanuele II is the street for high-end shopping. Brands of all kinds and street artists attract the attention of all visitors; while at Via Santa Radegonda 16, Luini Panzerotti is a much appreciated street food shop providing unimaginable culinary experiences. If shopping takes its toll on you, consider visiting Castello Sforzesco, a 15th century castle housing several museums. Those looking to relax can go to Parco Sempione, where nature provides respite from the energy of this dynamic and international city.
