We booked this trip via our hotel and this worked very well. The hotel were also able to provide a schedule of the train and boat times to help us decide where to make stops on the way and what to look at. This all-day round-trip started in Stresa for us, with taking a morning train north to Domodossola. There... More

We attempted this journey in the opposite direction to most starting at Domodossola. Despite speaking to the tourist office in Stresa and Domodossola information on the scheduling was very difficult to obtain. Signage at Domodossola train station was appalling, we gave up and ended up doing the clockwise circuit. The train ride through the mountain was appealing however you could... More

Took the train option first and back down the lake second. Price was 32 euros per person (although you could book a ticket to use the next day on the lake boats for an extra 8 euros which was worth it). The woman in the booking office was impatient with tourists and ended our questions by saying 'I am finished... More

Really disgusting service. Turned up in Arona in good time to board the 10.15 boat. The manager was an irritable fool, and refused us entry to the boat, claiming it was full. We eventually were able to join in Stresa, in the end it was an overrated, expensive and crowded trips. Just hire a car and drive, much less stressful

We woke up to a clear day and good weather forecast so we took this round trip from Stresa, going first to the train station (buy all 3 parts), First part is the "express" train from Stresa to Domodosula (about 1/2 hour), leaving about 9am. Second part, was to go directly to take the "slow" train (not a cog wheel)... More

but it was a super day out and a great way to see the lake and all the scenery. We went from Stressa by train and had a lovely stop at Duodomo on the way with time to look around and have a coffee. On reaching Locarno we decided not to visit the monastery or have lunch but spent our... More

I think the title "Express" could be a bit misleading. This is a very leisurely trip that allows you time to take in the many great views on offer. We started in Stresa and did the railway part first followed by the 3hr boat trip. The first leg to Domodossola is quick and gives you enough time for coffee before the... More

i have done the Lake Maggiore expresss (train to Locarno and then Ferry back to stresa) It was ok but nothing as good as people rave about. Been to other trips much better called the Maggiore Discovery Trips. They were fantastic. They are three trips by private boats that cover the whole of the lake. you can buy them individually... We live in Lombardy but until last weekend hadn't been on a boat trip on Lago Maggiore. We took a day tour on the "Express" which traverses the lake from Arona to Lacarno in Switzerland, the return journey was by train throught the most breath taking mountain scenery. We had a three course lunch on board the boat, around 14... More
