We were staying in middle of Lake Como for 10 days. This Garden of Villa Monastero in Varenna is well worth a visit, in the top 3 gardens of our tour, Melzi and Carlotta were the other two tops. Varenna is a lovely town to visit.

If you visit Varenna, this is certainly one of the must-see locations. Unfortunately on the day we visited, the villa was closed, but we paid 5 Euros and trooped in to view the gardens instead. What a beautiful and relaxing spot, with magnificent views over the lake and to the towns on the other side. The weather was in our... More

View and architecture were stunning, Walkway is picturesque but exercise caution getting off the pathway. Roots and vines may become trip hazards for folks with ambulatory issues.

The admission was free to this large italian garden containing many remarkable species. For 50 cents a complete botanical guide was available. In addition admission was free to the huge villa which was originally furnished.

This villa and garden was recommended by our B and B owner who said many of his lodgers had liked it so we went and loved it. The autumn flowers were still blooming and it was fun to see the orange, lemon and grapefruit trees with fruit hanging on them. Each room in the villa has a paper that you... More

We visited on a beautiful autumn day in late September. The gardens are magnificent, and the villa itself has been beautifully set up in its original state ( well close to it). Well woth a visit, and we struck a day which was free!!

The day we went it turned out to be free and it was late opening. So we visit the villa and gardens an night and it was no visitors there. It was strange, but magical. The villa pretty small and nice and gardens very pretty.

Beautiful gardens which we visited late in the day and seemed to be the only ones there. We strolled at a slow pace drinking in the beauty and tranquility. When tired we stopped for a glass of wine and continued the task of letting every drop of tension float from our bodies in this relaxing setting.

The gardens run along Lake Como with interesting rock walls and beautiful gardens. Walking through the gardens with Lake Como on it's shore was fabulous. A must see in Varenna.

we visited the gardens only which were a riot of colour and variety of plants, flowers, and the exotic. Could have and should have stayed longer but we had a ferry to catch! Much preferred Varenna to Bellagio. Varenna was beautiful.
