This place is one of a kind. The grounds are beautifully manicured. The flowers are well maintained and cared for. Every turn is picture perfect. I took way too many pictures. Bring a lunch and absorb the scenery. It's a treat for the eyes as well as the mind. I think this is a "must see" while you are Varenna.

The gardens are especially brilliant, and located right by the side of the lake. Many different species of plants , and many interesting nooks and crannies

A wonderful garden which rambles along the water's edge. Its an easy walk from the ferry stop in Varenna to get to the entrance. The gardens themselves are quite large, so allow time to cover it all. Glorious old pine trees, amazing varieties of palms and citrus and pretty flower beds.

Villa Monastero sits just outside of Varenna right on the banks of Lake Como. The stroll through the garden was delightful. There are a few Roman style statues and columns here and there, and many flowers and trees. We toured the small villa itself, which was pretty and held some interesting furniture, although it was not overly grand. The best... More

The Villa itself is only open for inspection on Thursdays-Sundays inclusive in summer so we unfortunately didn't get the opportunity to view the interior. There is a charge of 5euro to enter the Villa grounds and it was worth the cost as it stretches along the rugged coastline for perhaps half a kilometre. There are some very old trees amongst... More

A wonderful walk through the gardens down to the lakeside. There are a vast variety of plants, all labelled, making it easy to note favourites. Lots of architecture to admire as you walk along the paths. Seats are dotted around the gardens with the best being under the trees by the lakeside. Nice places to sit and just enjoy the... More

The lovely gardens by the side of the lake are breathtaking. It's quite pricey (5euros for gardens alone, and 8 for museum as well) but if you take your time to enjoy the silence, view, nature, it's totally worth it. The nice architecture that is covered in beautiful plants make for great pictures so bring your camera. A few downsides:... More

The house was not open on the day we visited, but the grounds were quite lovely. Bring water, as it can get quite hot in the sun and there was not much shade. The walk is out and back on mostly the same path. Lots of photo opportunities. We enjoyed our visit here, but our favorite was Villa Carlotta across... More

It's our third visit and we still love the views, the architecture and, of course, the garden. Cool Cyprus trees amongst the flower borders, and lots of labels too.
