Beautiful garden spot hard on the lake. Many different areas of the world are represented in the spectacular gardens. A nice walk through attraction with many scents and sights to see. The villa itself can be toured, but by far the best part of this attraction was the gardens.

We toured the gardens, which were pretty--nice lake views and a good variety of plants. We didn't tour the Villa itself

Took a very pleasant stroll through the gardens to the museum. Found the museum itself to be stuffy and not well curated. Were followed around the whole time by a suspicious docent!

From the ferry stop take a right and follow the pretty lakeside promenade into Varenna. You will need walk up steep steps to the upper street and take another right. It just a short walk from there to the Villa entrance, maybe 10 minutes total from the ferry if that. The Villa is not open on Monday, which was the... More

We were staying near here and kept getting glimpses of the wonderful gardens at the site, so we finally decided to pay to get in and check it out. We weren't disappointed. The architectural follies are delightful, the gardens are impressive, and the views along this section of Lago di Como are unbeatable. It is well worth the trip.

Last month I visited the gardens of Villa Monastero. It was a beautiful sunny day. The grounds of the villa are stunningly beautiful with all the various flowers, plants, trees and shrubs. It was a very pleasant way to spend a couple hours wandering the grounds.

One day when I wandered in First thing in the morning and I found piping hot fresh raspberry croissants in the bar, coupled with a nice cappuccino I found myself in a certain type of paradise! The Villa is open daily to wander and enjoy a spectacular view & botanics! It also offers special concerts & art exhibits.

This place is just one of the most beautiful things I have seen in my life! The villa, the gardens, the views... I was just speechless!

This is not really a monastery. Instead, it is a large villa once owned by a wealthy family. The gardens are nice, but unremarkable. If you're visiting any of Italy's great cities, I would advise that you save the steep ticket price and spend the money on museums in Florence, Venice, Rome, or Milan. However, if varenna is your only... More

The gardens here are simply stunning, and offer a perfect way to enjoy the views of the lake. Well designed it is very easy to get around the gardens without much effort. Worth noting that if you have trouble walking this is one of the few gardens on the Lake that doesn't have lots of stairs and slopes. The villa... More
