The best part of Varenna. If you like mature, varied plantings with plenty of neo-classical sculpture and soaring views over a gorgeous lake, this is your place. I half-expected Maggie Smith to appear in period costume at any moment. My happy place!

Though the villa itself is imposing it is not that fancy but the views and the gardens are lovely. We enjoyed Varenna and this was and interesting stop on Lake Como.

A wonderful walk through gardens overlooking Lake Como. Definitely worth visiting. A highlight of Varenna.

Really quite ordinary gardens situated in a lovely spot. Save your 5euro admission and walk along the footpath of the road above for the same views. The gardens of Villa Carlotta and Villa Balbienello are much, much, much better. Villa Monastero gardens need to be weeded and mowed.

We really enjoyed walking around the gardens and paid extra to see the house which was really worthwhile. €8.00 each

Beautiful gardens stretching about a mile along the lake, with wonderful views of Lake Como's three legs.

We came here look for a spot to have a picnic but turns out the Villa Cipressi had a better spot so we went there.

The views from Villa Monastero were simply divine. There were so many times when we simply stopped and looked out to the lake. This property is undergoing a bit of repair on some of the trails, but the ones that were open were well-kept and afforded abeautiful, tranquil experience. We enjoyed an ice coffee in the little cafe - like... More

We only walked through the gardens, not the villa. The setting on the lake was great. The gardens were fairly good, nothing starry. The gardens extend a fair way along the shore. The villa and gardens are not in the same league as the fabulous Villa Carlotta which is on the opposite shore. But worth doing if you are staying... More
