We caught the boat from Bellagio to Varenna to look at the village, and saw signs to the garden. We decided to have a look, and am so glad we did. It was an unexpected highlight of our time on Lake Como. The weather was sunny and clear, and the views along the waters edge and beyond were lovely. Highly... More

Lovely garden with beautiful lakeside setting. We didn't go into the villa, but enjoyed our walk in the garden. Great spot for pictures.

Having never visited one before I don't have anything to compare it to, but it was early in the season (March) so appreciate the gardens would not be in full bloom, the Villa wasn't open to visit, so it was just the gardens, but for two people 10 Euros which I thought was quite steep. The views are amazing of... More

We arrived to Varrena from Milan (1 day trip to Lake Como) in March. We were really lucky with the wheather it was almost summer-time with 19 C degree. You need to visit the garden of Villa Monastero when you have nice wheather (the entrance is from the "main" street, just opposite to a parking house (we missed it firstly).... More

There are many reasons to visit Lake Como. High on my list is Villa Monastero, which I have visited three times over the years. I am a photographer, and it is one of my favorite places to capture beautiful images. And it is very inexpensive to visit. Take your time, take pictures, and walk all the way to end, where... More

This is a former church property that now is open to the public. The grounds, which border Lake Como, are just stunning. Giant magnolia trees. Huge agave plants. A dozen different types of citrus trees. It's a wonderful place for a quiet walk, a place to contemplate the beauty of the lake and the wonders of the natural world.

Villa Monastero is beautiful, to say the least. The extent of the gardens is fantastic, and they are extremely well kept. There is also a small coffee shop in the gardens for a drink while you walk. There are statues and many amazing sculptures. It is easy to spend hours in the shade of the trees, taking in the view... More

We walked to the Villa and bought a ticket just for the gardens as others indicated the inside of the Villa was not worth the fee. We probably spent two hours walking the trails, taking photos and just sitting in the beautiful and well cared for gardens. There is a small coffee shop in the gardens but it was easy... More

Close to the town square. We were surprised to see several of the plants in the gardens growing so far north. The gardens are extensive and lie right along the lake shore. A beautiful setting.

Beautiful and extensive gardens along Lake Como. Small admission price. Snack bar about halfway way thru for rest stop. Equally beautiful villa to also tour.
