The Villa Monastero must be in hard times financially. We wondered if their gardener had died. Weeds everywhere (lots and lots). Muddy paths where the gravel has not been replenished. But there were some gems closer to the Villa. Perhaps they are focusing their efforts there, and assume that visitors won't fully explore the gardens as we did. There were... More

We visited before the main tourist season so it was a very relaxed visit to the garden. Many of the flower bed were being prepared for the summer but it did not take away from the beauty of the location.

Cheap entry fee. March 2013 =2 Euros if over 65 and 4 if younger. Gardens with architectural frames for views along teh lake and to the mountains. In the pretty village of Varenna- our favourite on the lake.

Gardens were very good with a beautiful position next to Lake Como. We took lots of great photos of the gardens and lake. Ducks and swans were enchanting. Also had a photographic display when we visited.

I would recommend this to anyone who goes to Varenna. We didn't get a chance to go see the house museum but did walk through the botanical gardens(5 euros per person). It was a pleasant weather so walking was relaxing and we got some amazing pictures with the lake and mountains in the back-drop. If you are in town for... More

Very Lucky that at the time we were making Holidays they just opened their Doors for the Season. Its Set in a Beautiful Area and a very Impressive Garden. The Villa itselfs and also the Beautiful Fountain etc were not well looked after. What i was most Dissapointed about was that none of the Staff had any Idea about the... More

The town of Varenna is north of Bellagio on the east side of Lake Como, and our favorite town after exploring nearly a dozen of the lakeside beauties during our 2 week stay based in Laglio. My camera never stopped particularly at the Villa Monestero. It is beautifully sited but requires extensive walking. The gardens were lovely, but I was... More

Gorgeous gardens overlooking the lake, easily accessed from the main square in Varenna. Comparable to Villa Balbianello in Lenno .

The location and the gardens of the Villa are the highlights of this former monastery. It is sited right on the edge of Lake Como and the views are quite spectacular both from the gardens and the house. The house is interesting and there are descriptive brochures in each room explaining the highlights of the rooms. Kind of amazing that... More
