This is a beautiful garden, with stunning views of Varenna, Fiumelatte and across the water to Bellagio and Menaggio. Make sure to go all the way South, as not all paths continue on, and only one leads all the way to the end of the gardens. The best reason to come here is to escape the throngs in Varenna: it's... The gardens are lovely. Make sure you have the time to really appreciate. Highly recommend. We only did the gardens as the villa was open after noon.

It was unfortunate that when we visited, it rained all day. That didn't stop me and my husbad from strolling through this path and taking pictures though! The views and surroundings were so quaint and romantic I loved it. Don't miss this!

This place is one of a kind. The grounds are beautifully manicured. The flowers are well maintained and cared for. Every turn is picture perfect. I took way too many pictures. Bring a lunch and absorb the scenery. It's a treat for the eyes as well as the mind. I think this is a "must see" while you are Varenna.

The gardens are especially brilliant, and located right by the side of the lake. Many different species of plants , and many interesting nooks and crannies

A wonderful garden which rambles along the water's edge. Its an easy walk from the ferry stop in Varenna to get to the entrance. The gardens themselves are quite large, so allow time to cover it all. Glorious old pine trees, amazing varieties of palms and citrus and pretty flower beds.

Villa Monastero sits just outside of Varenna right on the banks of Lake Como. The stroll through the garden was delightful. There are a few Roman style statues and columns here and there, and many flowers and trees. We toured the small villa itself, which was pretty and held some interesting furniture, although it was not overly grand. The best... More

The Villa itself is only open for inspection on Thursdays-Sundays inclusive in summer so we unfortunately didn't get the opportunity to view the interior. There is a charge of 5euro to enter the Villa grounds and it was worth the cost as it stretches along the rugged coastline for perhaps half a kilometre. There are some very old trees amongst... More

A wonderful walk through the gardens down to the lakeside. There are a vast variety of plants, all labelled, making it easy to note favourites. Lots of architecture to admire as you walk along the paths. Seats are dotted around the gardens with the best being under the trees by the lakeside. Nice places to sit and just enjoy the... More
