From the time he picked my wife and I up at the Piazza San Giorgio to the time he dropped us off at the Vezio Castle, our time with Moreno was enjoyable as it was informative. For our class we learned how to make gnocchi, risotto, and handmade pasta. Between the wine, the food, the instruction, and the good company,... more

After seeing the positive reviews on Trip Advisor, my wife and I booked a cookery lesson with Chef Moreno by email for our visit to Lake Como in mid-June. We then decided to have dinner at Il Caminetto two nights earlier to get to know Chef Moreno and the restaurant. Both times, either Chef Moreno himself or his wife Rosella... more

We spent a great day with Chef Moreno on 30 April. Arranged by e-mail after we read about it here. He picked us up in Varenna square and took us - amazing drive - to his restaurant in the hills at Gittana. A wonderful host he served us coffees while he started preparations. We learned to cook polenta with cheese... more

I, too, took chef Moreno's delightful one-day course. He is a generous soul - happy to share both his passion for cooking and his wealth of experience. The food we prepared was delicious, and served with good wine, grappa, choux pastries (or the Italian equivalent) and good humour. Our group included an 8 year-old who put the rest of us... more

Chef Moreno and his wife Rossella run a charming restaurant located up a narrow mountain road that provides beautiful vistas of Lake Como as you wind you way towards their restaurant. Dont worry about the drive, Chef Moren is happy to take care of transportation to and from the train station in Varenna. Once inside you will experience a fabulous... more

We (mom, dad and two children) had a fantastic time with Chef Moreno during our cooking class. We learned how to make Tagliatelle with pesto, gnocci with gorgonzola and Pomodoro sauces and Risotto Milanese. He is such a personable and charming man with a real love for what he does and for his community. We took a cooking course in... more

We recently attended an Italian cooking class by Chef Moreno at his "Il Caminetto" restaurant located near Varenna. We drove to the restaurant via a series of switchback turns along a narrow road that hugs the mountainside above Varenna. Chef Moreno was charming with a dry sense of humor, entertaining us for hours. We learned how to make saffron risotto,... more

After reading current bestsellers about temperamental chefs and seeing them on TV, I didn't know what to expect at Il Caminetto. But Chef Moreno is the opposite of the prima donnas we see on TV, plus he's got their talent and more! Six of us learned how to make homemade pasta, some wonderful sauces and delicious potatoes in a half... more

Forget George Clooney! If you want a truly enjoyable afternoon on Lake Como, take a cooking lesson at Il Caminetto, near Varenna. Chef Moreno is witty, knowledgeable, a true lover of food, and definitely down-to-earth -- he shows you how to make delicious Italian food with everyday ingredients. There were six of us in the class on a late Monday... more

While visiting Lake Como we took a cooking class in a small village just above Varenna. This was a great experience at a great price. Chef Moreno had us don aprons and join him in the kitchen to prepare handmade pasta, rissotto and a fabulous stuffed and rolled meat main dish. We consumed some great red wine while learning and... more
