We went up about 1.500 feet, to the village above and gasped at the views either side at the top. We had a good lunch in the restaurant nearby, then walked around Brunate, There is a beautiful church to visit. The funicular runs every half hour, and has a smooth descent to Como harbour.

Such a beautiful experience, the only way really to get up and down the mountain, the road navigable but hair pin bends and 3 miles up with Italian driving, Forget it!! Not something you'd want to do every day. The funicular offers return journey for 6 euro's. and takes 6 minutes. Spectacular.

This is worth a visit and very reasonably priced. There is a bit of walking to do when you get to the top but it is worth it for the views

I had seen pictures of the view on the net, so it was a must do for us while in Como. We were lucky in the fact that we hardly had to queue to get on the funicular. The view from the top is every bit as good as I expected. Note - you follow the road round to the... More

Fantastic views of the lake from the top of the railway. Access to hiking trails but be warned you need to be in shape and get water prior to heading out on the trail to the lighthouse (at the funicular stop or at the church).

The funicular runs from Como, on the lake, to Brunate, at the top of the mountain. It's a 10-minute ride of breathtaking beauty. At the top, you can see all the way to the Alps. If you're willing to climb on foot, the town of Brunate is lovely. At 5.5 Euros round trip, this may be the best value in... More

This was a great ride, lots of fun, and the view was spectacular!! No need to be concerned about the ride if you're afraid of heights--went great. Lots of steps up at the top to get the view, however.

To fill half a day, this is an ideal small trip to do. Not expensive (5.5 Eur pp) and the walking route to the Volta lighthouse is a steep route but the view from the top is certainly worth the trip.

The trip to the top is fun (but crowded), but there is nothing to do up there but see the view(which is nice). There is a small town, but other than a few stalls selling items and few small places to eat, not much else to do. This is a starting point for hikers going elsewhere.
