It was the nicest place we got to visit. Took the Funicular and got to the old upper part of Bergamo in no time! This is an absolute must visit if in Bergamo!

The Cittá Alta of Bergamo is an amazing medieval with its well-preserved medieval historic center with intact city walls, towers, beautiful buildings. In the cathedral are visible (non-payment) some interesting paintings of the choir including the interesting Martyrdom of St. John the Bishop of Giambattista Tiepolo. It is a bustling center, 40 km from Milan teeming with exhibitions and activities.... More

Lovely to walk around, lots of cobbled streets, shops and restaurants. There is a cover charge on all restaurants but only a couple of euros each. Take the funiculars - stunning views from the top.

Wonderful old town with lovely shops, bars and streets and fabulous views. Very busy when we were there but you just need to go away from the main street to get away from the crowds.

Visiting La Citta Alta was the highlight of Bergamo for us. The views are absolutely stunning from up in Citta Alta. You can look down upon Bergamo and get a great view of the more modern city along with nearby mountains and vineyards. This place is wonderful for exploring the past historical places that fill every corner . There is... More

The city are all still on the same buildings since it was on century 12th ! The churchs, towers, are all in very good shape! The restaurants, hotels, stores, they kept the main structure of the buildings orignally as they were on the Medieval era... You can easily feel you are back in past when you are walking through the... More

The old and new lifestyle. The old and new attractions. The Locals. The small bars and restaurants. Most people in shops, bars and restaurants speak English,so don't worry about not being understood. The local cuisine is usually great and excellent value. We particularly liked the architecture in the Citte Alta.

The beauty and atmosphere of the citta alta is wonderful, just walking up and around you appreciate the beauty of the city as you look down upon the modern thriving city. The people have done a lot to keep the unity of the old city intact. You can easily wile away a day visiting the various monuments and eating in... More

Although a 'funicolare' is available, and occasionally we did use it, the walk up Sant Allessandro is satisfying, knowing that the meal at the top will be worth it.A beautiful old city, so much history and ancient architecture,it is worth visiting more than once.
