Bergamo is divided into the Citta Alta, the original town on the top of a hill, surrounded by a wall, and the lower, modern part. The main attraction is the Citta Alta. - Buy a 3 day bus pass for 7 euros. It also works on the two funiculars. - Take the number 1 bus - airport, train station, Porta... More

Its purpose is to bring people up to the old town, but I see it more like a fun ride, inexpensive, and offering you a nice view. I highly recommend it.

Good. Cheap and regular. It carries on until quite late as well so that's quite useful. There's one up to Citta Alta and then, on the other side of town, another to get to a higher up town.

If you are staying outside the city or in the lower city then the lazy way up is a must. Sure you can save a few Euros by walking, but the old funicular is well worth the ride and quite quick too.

Loved the ride ...but they are rigid about departure times....they won't wait!! We were using the machine to buy a ticket and although the conductor saw us, he left without us because that's when it was scheduled to depart. There was only one person on board. We went to dinner on top and although the schedule said the last funicular... More

If staying in the lower city and you plan on going up to the upper city (Alta Cita), consider buying the multday pass. The frequency of cars depends on the time of day. We took the Funicolare up several times, but chose to walk down. For the easiest way down from the upper city, ask someone at one of the... More

Go on this even if you do not need to, to experience the great views of Bergamo. Then walk through the old town and go on the second Funicolare for even better views.
