Lovely little square to stroll through or sit at a cafe with a coffee and people-watch. We visited over the weekend and on the Sunday there was an antiques fayre which was lovely to visit. Fantastic views from the bell-tower and only cost €3 to go up (lift or stairs) - just be careful with your timing as the bells... More

Piazza Vecchia is one of the most beautiful medieval squares in Italy. Even though it was cold and rainy we enjoyed it very much.

Old Bergamo is a beautiful historical small city not far from Milan (day-trip by train or bus). I strongly recommend strolling around the old city and visiting the 2 main old historical churches, the Cathedral and Sta Maria Maggiore, one beside the other. You can have lunch or dinner in any of the many pleasant restaurants located in the old... More

On one (a very small indeed) square you can gap three churches at once - Roman, Gothic and Baroque. Really great possibility to catch the difference. :)

Not that big, not that grand, but with it's own charm. You can have a drink or something to eat at the square and just watch people passing by.

The Piazza Vecchia was smaller than we expected - but it was intimate and cosy. Dominated by a large white collounaded building on one side the piazza has more traditional buildings on the other 3 sides - one of which consists of a first floor only - the ground floor is simply an open space with arches supporting the irst... Pull up a chair in the Piazza, have a glass of wine or two and watch people and their dogs. Seems that everyone in Bergamo walks a dog. Visit the churches and museums. Eat gelato.

We were there and there was a flower/plant festival on which made the square look really lovely in the sunshine. Im sure its still nice on a normal weekend as its surrounded by bars/restaurants and its very nice to sit there and watch the world go by.

Beautiful city square surrounded by buildings of various ages. Restaurants, bell tower, even library. So much to see in Bergamo. It would take a good week to really enjoy this delicious small town.
