We wish we had more time to see the fabulous interior of this church. After coming from France where many churches are quite austere and plain after the Catholic Reformation, the Basilica di Santa Maria Maggiore Baptistry was full of amazing things to see. We had only 15 minutes before it closed for lunch and we wished that we had... More

We were actually visiting Bergamo in September 2013 and loved the feel of this city. The new town has wide streets from the train station. It is worth then walking up the narrow cobbled street to the old town and strolling around this part of the city. The church is fantastic - probably the most ornate church we saw during... More

It was awesome to see such a beautiful church way up Bergamo alta, all around was a lot to take in, but if you have little time it is still nice to see. It was closed during lunch hour between 1-2:30pm.

I went to this basilica in afternoon of the working day and truly enjoyed it. It was such a peaceful place. I just wanted to look around but I stayed more then hour as it was such a wonderful quiet environment.

We did a few churches during our Italian holidays, but none like this. Not one each is left untouched. Absolutely breathtaking !!! Tapestries, paintings even marquetry panel that are a delight on display. Allocate enough time to try to really grasp the whole beauty of this place.

As soon as you walk in the WOW factor hits you, it is difficult to find words to describe the paintings and frescoes in the basilica, truly outstanding. You are frightened that you miss something when you walk around. This is a must when you visit Bergamo.
