As soon as you walk in the WOW factor hits you, it is difficult to find words to describe the paintings and frescoes in the basilica, truly outstanding. You are frightened that you miss something when you walk around. This is a must when you visit Bergamo.

There are no words to describe the beauty of this cathedral. It is a work of art. And the "back" entrance is just as fabulous as the facade. Walk around back and find the lion guardians.

You'll be overwhelmed by the beauty of the paintings and frescoes on the ceilings and the dome of this 12th century basilica. But also do not miss a fantastic confessional and do not forget to take a walk around the basilica's walls - starting from the red lions - to check all the entrances (there are 4 of them) and... A local took us here and we were captivated by its interior - the influence of the venetians on the decor was evident and magnificent in its detail.

It is an example of luxury in Catholic churches - there is no more space anywhere for anything else. However, it has a great aura and I enjoyed relaxing there for a while.

Before to look at the ceiling I thought it was a beautiful church like many others in Italy, then I gave a glance to what was above my head and, my jaw dropped.

We wandered into the Basilica Di Santa Maggiore in Bergamo without really expecting much, and were blown away. It's one of the most ornate churches we have ever seen, with frescos by Tiepolo. Really worth a look.
