We were meandering through Old Town, when we eventually found this church. I really enjoy checking out churches. We walked in and was immediately taken aback. The place was beautiful!! And we were greeted by one Of the sweetest ladies I've bee met. I didn't speak Italian. She didn't speak French or English, so we used google translate. :). What an amazing Hunan being she is!! She gave us prayer cards, and little trinkets, and I am still grateful!! The church itself has Roman foundations, literally. The statute of Mary is a miraculous weeping statue. She told us it had been weeping in the days before we came there. When it weeps, something is about to happen (is what she said). It did, when the Belgian airport was damaged, and people died. That shook me up quite a bit, as it happened a day or two after she told us that. Anyway, around the statue, you see 15th century painting, and in the basement, there are pillars made with different types of stone, and thy have Roman carvings/writing on them. Mind=blown. I would come back here any day, anytime. The sense of peace wraps around you like a warm blanket on a cold day. It felt SO GOOD!! And I'm convinced this is a place that has God on speed dial. No kidding. It's that extraordinary!

I am not even sure what this is. I would guess that it used to be a church. It is impressive with it's statues and paintings, etc. This is just a block from the cathedral and worth a stop.

Please note the church is only open on Friday-Sunday. The plaza outside the church is a nice place to rest in the shade whilst enjoying a breeze.

The church is just a part of what the old part of Ventimiglia has to offer. This church is very old and parts date back to the time before the Romans. Now the church is restored but in a ristic style. you can see some of the old remains they have found while restoring the church.

The church of San Michele Arcangelo is located in Piazza Colletta in the historic center (upper town) of Ventimiglia.
The church was built in the 10th century by the Counts of Ventimiglia for noble chapel use and later entrusted to the Benedictine monks of Lerino.
The structure was revised in Romanesque style in the 11th century and again in the 12th century, when the apse, the central nave and the bell tower were rebuilt.
Initially with three naves, the two sides collapsed following an earthquake in 1628.
Inside it preserves three milestones coming from the ancient Via Julia Augusta, two of which are used as holy water fonts and the third to support the vault of the crypt.
Admission is free, although a (small) donation will alwaus be appreciated.

Fantastic church, atmospheric, ancient, what even is a baptistery? Who knows but this place has one. Plus one of the most incredible little chapels. Highly recommended.

Amazing ancient church with a simple design and absolutely empty when we visited mid afternoon in mid August, so all the more atmospheric for it. Well worth a stop.

In the middle of the old town of Ventimiglia, you find this remarkable church worth visiting. It is very old. The oldesest parts of the church goes back to the pre-roman periode. You can see what is left in the crypt. The church is renovated in a gentle and fine way. Absolutely worth visiting
