We liked the shops and restaurants, the ease to get boat trips. the bus along to Portofino and Rapallo. The total atmosphere of the town. Only negative was crossing the road on the pedestrian crossings! Overall a wonderful place.

During our holiday in Italy, we combined Cinque Terre, Sante Margherita Ligure and Portofino. We used Levanto as our base. We used 4 days for all these areas. It was easy to visit these places without a car. We just took the train which took an hour. Check out the trenitalia website for the schedule of the train. We found... More

Really great place to go to if you are interested in the Ligur region. We only met locals or tursits from Italy, you don't get all the crowd from england or eastern Europe. Really clean and neat city.

A charming Italian town. A great place to experience what Italy is all about. The views, restaurants, culture and the Mediterranean.

Santa Margherita Ligure is a place with the interesting past, nice old villas and parks, but now is really disappointing: narrow streets and beaches are overcrowded all the time, the choice of restaurants and cafes is poor, the choice of food stores is limited plus, in some the check-out staff are cheating - beware! Lack of public toilets. Roads are... More

We have been to Sta Margherita about fifteen times in the last twenty years. We never tire of it and it never seems to change. It is a short Vespa ride from overpriced but charming Portofino. Hotel Imperiale Palace is the place to stay while you are there.

What a wonderful town! Great restaurants, ambiance, sweet people! Do not expect everyone to speak English! It adds to the charm. Do not miss it!

On first impressions we thought we had travelled back in time, and not in a particularly good way. But, after spending the time to wander, we found a really beautiful, characterful town with none of the pretentiousness of its Portofino neighbour. Don't be daunted that it is seemingly full of Italians on holiday, go with the flow and don your... More
