We are 2 mature couples who live in Santa Barbara, CA and we loved the beauty of the area, the accessibility to day trips such as Cinque Terre, Pisa, Livorno, and the French Riviera. We dined at anyplace that we happened upon and got really good meals due to the abundance of fish. The people in the area were delightful.

Just 50 minutes by local train from Genoa main train station. Very easy to get to. Beautiful fishing town with magnificent scenery and nice shopping that range from reasonable to expensive. Great restaurants and coffee shops. You can jump on a ferry to neighbouring Portofino very easily. Compared to Portafino this gem is tourist free and considerably cheaper.

The drive from Rapallo through Santa Margherita Ligure and down to Portofino is a wonderful drive, if not a bit hair-raising from time to time. Parking has its challenges. Next time I will hire a scooter or a bicycle and take my time.

This is the best kept secret in Italy. A beautiful place right on the harbour. Next door to Portofino but better and cheaper. We loved it. Catch the train from here to all the Cinque Terra places or go by boat. Cannot wait to go back.

This little town just feels good. There is at least one very fancy hotel as well as many right on the beach. There are some boutique hotels just off the beach on quiet, shaded streets that are within a block or two of the beach and high end shopping. There are a number of very nice restaurants with views of... More

This town has it all - beautiful bay and sheltered position; lovely architecture; good selection of hotels, shops, bars, cafes and restaurants; lovely parks and churches abound; great transport links - by road, rail, boat and bus; friendly locals; a proper living / working community and a proper seafront promenade with a leisure boat port at the end

Love Love Love it here. While it is not super touristy or jam packed with activity - this area in wonderfully situated between Portofino - which you can take a lovely but a little lengthy walk to- and the Cinque Terre which you can take the convenient train to. It is also possible to catch the boat to San Fruttuoso... More

What a magnificent little seaside town - right by the water, with a lovely harbour filled with very large & many small boats. We cup aught the ferry from here to Cinca Terre. We travelled by bus to Positano,to Ravello & more. So easy & so inexpensive. We stayed in Santa Margherita Ligure for 3 beautiful days @ a little hotel... More
