This was the base for our tour group for two nights while we went to Cinque Terre and Portofino. The location was great and we probably would have liked to have spent more time here - except we had dreadful accommodation. The natural beauty of the town shone through during our walks - particularly by the water.

I loved the little streets, plenty of choices for food and the ability to catch the train to the Cinque Terre.

Very nice resort with aristocratic atmosphere and great sea-walk area overlooking the marina with boats and yachts. Perfect embarkation point for one day to Portofino, one in Cinque Terre and one in Genova. Geographically Santa Margherita is on the west coast and you expect to see Sunsets, yet my hotel was situated on the bay and I surprisingly enjoyed the... More

On a lark, we took the ferry from Portofino for an afternoon visit. Life in this city seems to revolve around its two seaside squares. The Baroque church is it's most visited attraction located in a pedestrian only area where there are lots of restaurants and shopping. This would be a convenient, not so "chic", base for visiting the Cinque... More

Santa Margherita Ligure is a beautiful city centrally located on the Ligurian coastline with easy access to Portofino and the Cinque Terre by boat or train. Lovely restaurants and shopping and beautiful buildings featuring trompe l'oeil windows and more - a photographer's dream. I recommend it as the perfect place to stay as you explore the Ligurian coastline, the Italian... More

This is a lovely city, but even more beautiful is the sea. Loved the ferry ride from here to Cinque Terra

We stayed her e and used the train to visit the cinque terre. Much more affordable than Portofino with good shopping and reasonable hotels.

We booked one night in Santa Margherita Ligure [on our way to Milan for departure], because our accommodation in Vernazza [Cinque Terre] could only grant us two nights instead of three. We were very happy to have made this one night stop. Santa Margherita Ligure coupled with Portofino is a beautiful area to visit. Nice restaurants, beach side, harbour, sculpture... More

Beautiful place to visit the area. Train and ferries can take you to explore other cities of the Italian Riviera like Portofino & Rapallo. Nice restaurants, beautiful hotels, lovely walks, swimming and beach activities what more would you want?
