This is a nice town to spend a couple of nights during summer. It is lively and there is a certain summer buzz. Each summer they organize live music on different nights in different parts of the town.

Love the area, Restaurants, Beach, Shopping and just everything about Santa Margherita. I guess the thing I don't really love is the access. Wish it was just easier to access this area as very difficult to get flights to Genoa.

Last time we just drove through Santa Margherita on our way to Portofino. What a mistake. S.M. has great restaurants, beaches, people watching, and hotels. We walked back and forth from there for the requisite visit to Portofino. Its a great 2-3 mile walk almost all along the water. Hotels are much less expensive and available in S.M. There is... More

I love this place. We are here for a month. Perfect combination of sitting on the beach all day and being able to tour around to neighboring villages. We hike in the morning and then feel no guilt going to the beach clubs all day. Food and people are wonderful

Much prettier than Portofino. Restaurants and shopping were the most reasonable in Italy. Gorgeous sea views. Great family restaurants with authentic food fresh from the sea. Ferry takes you on day excursions. Can walk the city in half a day. Very beautiful and uncrowded .

Lovely seaside town but a shame about the traffic running in front of the restaurants. I visited the church which was richly decorated. The streets run away from the beach so there was a lovely breeze. I saw an interesting sign with lights advising what to do in case of floods! Sadly Villa Durazzo was closed whilst I was there.

Location is accessible by train from Milllan and bus to Fortofino, People dresses up well and both tourist and local are friendly. We feel safe in the area compare to other parts of Italy we travelled. We love Italian foods, pasta, pizza and wine. The only thing I dislikes is train station master is not helpful to tourist assisting Eurail... More

Probably the best place to stay if you want to visit places like Portofino where the hotels are cheaper than Portofino. Try to book a hotel in the town rather than up the hill as it can be a hike to get back to your hotel.

Santa Margherita Ligure is not a super trendy place where everything is expensive and people go there to be seen. If you want a relaxing holiday with sea and sun&good restaurants this is the place for you
