We visited in November when the Funivia (cable car) was closed for the month. So we took the bus up (about 20 minutes, very curvy road but interesting to see the vineyards, groves, and farmhouses in the hills). The sanctuary was indeed beautiful and peaceful. The view was lovely though there was haze that day. We were in pretty good... More

The cable car up to Santuario di Motallegro is small but runs regularly and was sufficient for the small number of visitors on the day we went to the church. It was quite easy to find the starting point and we were treated to some good views on the way up. The church itself was quite interesting but the real... More

The funivia /cable car ride was part of the fun of going. And of course the story behind this nearly 500 year old sanctuary, the art, and the ongoing local culture of Montallegro helped to make it an interesting experience.

If you are near Rapallo, then you have to visit this place. We went up in the cable car which runs about every 30 mins and is pretty cheap. We decided to walk down to appreciate the views. It took about an hour. The church is very beautiful and has lovely things inside. There is a restaurant at the top... More

This is a splendid building with fantastic views and wonderful icons and paintings inside. It is also a very peaceful place for prayer and meditation. The grounds are also worth exploring.

The walk to the cable cars from the center of town took about fifteen minutes. There were plenty of signs to guide you though the river channel adjacent to the walkway was pretty smelly and overgrown with vegetation and some litter. The cable car ride was eight euros for a roundtrip. The cable cars came regularly about every ten minutes.... More

Liked the Funivia ride to reach it, the church itself (read the story first!), the mountain walk and breathtaking views.

What an amazing place! The church is lovely, the views are great and as many others have said the ride up is a must when one visits Rapallo.

This trip up in the cable car can be as long or as quick as you wish. We spent a few hours there. After visiting the church we spend an hour walking along the tracks in the woods.
