Brilliant way of seeing Cinque Terre!

Visited the area on a cruise ship and decided to visit Cinque Terre. Tickets were €26 for a hop-on-off service. Had to change boats at Portovenere. Decided to stay on the boat to... read more

Cinque Terre is one of the most beautiful places I have visited. You can go there by train but I suggest to visit the towns by boat. You'll see Cinque Terre from a different perspective and then take the train back to La Spezia. Boats leave from La Spezia harbor.

One of the most picturesque locations on our planet! I also loved St. Margherita and Portofino. Will definitely return.

I was disappointed with our visit to this area. Very crowded, run down, constant train delays, trails closed, etc. This area is totally overrated. Towns are supposedly dependent on tourist trade and there were many tourist, but sadly the whole area is so run down and just plain dirty. We talked with a couple that was leaving after only one... Great weather and staying for 6 days, what better way to see the stunning coast line on a fine day. Well perhaps on another day as we picked the wrong day. It would have been nice to have been told by the young woman selling the tickets, that prior to spending €50 for 2 (€25 each) all day tickets, that... More

Visited the area on a cruise ship and decided to visit Cinque Terre. Tickets were €26 for a hop-on-off service. Had to change boats at Portovenere. Decided to stay on the boat to the final stop (Monterosso) to see where-else we wanted to go. We had coffee and cake at Monterosso and it was a beautiful place to visit. Due... More

We are not unfit but are glad we did not do the walks. People we met on the streets loved them but we only had one day to see all 5 villages. Believe me, there is enough walking and steps involved just getting around. We were happily exhausted at the end of the day.

Cinque Terre is beautiful but very overcrowded with tourists. We were there beginning of may and it was already so crowded. If you go to Cinque Terre I would absolutely avoid high season because the crowds in the villages, in the trains and boats, on the trails.... take away the charm of the place. Also try to use the boats... More

Timing of ferries between towns in April made it so we should have just bought round trip from Riomiggorie to Vernazza instead of for all 5 stops. Towns are small and do not need several hours to take in. Seems like people were hiking trails despite official verbal warning that trails were closed. Boarding ferry can be exciting in any... More

We have been at Monterosso, Vernazza and finally Riomaggiore, Through the boat tour (26 euro each, from portovenere) and it was so nice! I highly recommend to visit! I would suggest to take more time in Monterosso, to me the best one! And dont forget to eat the focaccia!

If you take the ferry from the Cinque Terre to Porto Venere, you get the gulf-of-the-poets boat tour free as part of your ticket (you do need to switch boats). The 45 minute tour was a great way to pass the time before lunch!
