This castle in Trieste is magnificant. Built by an Austrian Hungary empire duke as his retirement retreat before he was made emporer of Mexico and assasinated. Magnificant architecture and gardens. Went there with relatives from Trieste and took the tour was fantastic. If in Trieste for a couple of nights a must see. more
Very beautiful castle situated on the coast. We did not take the tour but had plenty of opportunities for photos on the grounds! more
A visit to Trieste is not complete unless you go to Miramare Castle. Even if you are not interested in the history, there are fantastic views from here, and wonderful botanical style gardens surrounding the outside grounds... We visited Miramare Castle in August 2003. Although it is a little out of town, a regular bus service goes to and from the Castle. The bus actually stops at a small coastal village at the foot of the cliffs that the Castle stands upon, and there are plenty of little restaurants to visit, as well as municipal bathing.
