Built as a summer retreat by the Habsburg Archduke Maximilian, he only spent a few years here before he was assassinated in Mexico. His life a very sad story. All he wanted to do was garden and enjoy the lovely waters of the Adriatic. The grounds of his castle are testament to his gardening prowess. We visited the castello late... More

Easy to get to on the number 6 bus from the railway station or opposite the tram stop in Pizza Oberdan and well worth a visit. Bus ride follows coast and local swimming spots. Interesting building, history, artworks and original furnishings. The gardens are extensive but not at their best in winter. The parterre garden Is currently being replanted.

This is an amazing castle. Not only is the view leading up to it incredible, but the interior is very well furnished and preserved – that might be in part because its owner, Emperor Maximilian I, never got to see the finished product as he was executed in Mexico. (His bed, for example, was never slept in.) The castle is... More

We took the bus from the main train/bus station to Miramare Castle. You need to be prepared to walk and walk to get to the castle after getting off the bus and late December weather in Trieste was as ice cold breezy as it could be. I also wish that there were more signs indicating the entrance and such. Once... More

Go on a nice day. The gardens are gorgeous and the interiors incredibly preserved and whimsical. The dragon fountain on the first floor up can also be seen from the entrance hall. The bottom of the pool is glass serving as a very strange feature in altogether odd folly of a building.

This is a very nice castle near the Trieste. Nice place to visit. A great location by the sea, a great garden and very rich and beautiful inside. A parking near behind the fence is for py but you can leave your car also outside. Also you must to pay for a visit to the castle. But the garden is... More
