You need to see this if only to marvel at how you can take such a fabulous spot and build something so ugly on it. Trust me, the interior is much worse than the exterior, so you could save yourself the entrance fee and just walk round the gardens.

I didn't go into the Castle, as I've seen a lot and really wanted to enjoy the outdoors. I didn't know what to expect, as I hadn't done much research, but what I found was magnificent. Beautiful fauna, nice trails, and wonderful views of the sea and mountains. Totally delightful.

Visited here on a beautiful day. What a spectacular setting for a castle. The rooms are fully furnished and there's plenty to see inside. However it's the outside that makes the trip worthwhile. Lovely views and lots of view points from which to appreciate them. We went by train from Trieste to Miramare station - 9 minutes, first stop. The... More

Take a bus out of town, or go for a long walk along the ocean until you reach this magnificent castle. You walk through various rooms at your own pace. Included in the tour price is both the inside of the castle, and the extensive outdoor areas. Fantastic views of the sea.

Trieste, by and large, does not have many fine attractions that visitors seek. Miramare Castle is a marvelous exception. I visited on an ultra rainy day and was blown away by its setting on the Gulf of the Adriatic. The castle, while not huge, as we tend to think of castles, is a gem built for the Habsburg Archduke Ferdinand... More

An excellent day trip about one half hour by bus from the central train station in Trieste this small castle is indeed beautiful offering some interesting history and insights into Trieste's place in the old Austro-Hungarian empire.

This is a perfect place to visit: castle & garden are great and very interesting. You learn a lot about the Austrian past of this area of Italy. Do not miss it. Take the No. 6 bus from the main train station to the final stop and reach the castle via the garden.

We were on limited time when we visited but it was lovely. The castle is in stunning grounds - there is no charge to wander round the gardens. The castle has a charge and is well worth it to see the 19th century furnishings and decor. I wish we had more time but would highly recommend it.

Miramare Castle is a beautiful castle built in 1860 for Ferdinand Maximilian from the House of Habsburg in 1860 . The castle is in a magnificent nature reserve with glorious views over the Adriatic Sea . Ferdinand was involved with the designing the castle , as well as its extensive gardens . Most of the rooms have a view over... More

This castle, in an extensive park, is altogether over the top, but well displayed, and has a very full explanation in the audio guide. The fate of Archduke Maximilian, who built it (it was not finished until after his death, when the adventure of being Emperor of Mexico came to a gory end) and of his wife Charlotte (who survived...
