A marvellous Castle and a great love story, The castle of Maximiliam and Charlotte, before they go to Mexico, a fairy tale castle with greats gardens.

The 19th-century castle on the Gulf of Trieste near Trieste was built from 1856 to 1860 for Austrian Archduke Ferdinand Maximilian and his wife, Charlotte of Belgium. Regrettably, because of his assassination in Mexico, the Archduke did not get to live there. It sits on a promontory with incredible views. Rooms are well restored and the surrounded park is wonderful... More

This was such a beautiful old castle, still in really great condition. The goounds/gardens surrounding it are also amazing. Really worth visiting and taking the time it have a good look around, allow at least a couple of hours. We also had a fabulous meal at the restaurant at the marina, well worth stopping, the service and food was great.

We traveled by bus on a holiday and reached the castle within 20 minutes. Pretty seaside location with great views and a lovely park, which we regretably viewed only briefly because the opening hours were limited (beginning of November). Make sure to stop for a lunch or snack at Tavernetta right at the little harbor, but make sure to get... More

I was driving from Gorizia to Trieste and I saw something strange by the sea. It was a wonderful castle Miramare. You must see it!

Oct 2 On a clear, brisk morning we stopped to visit the grounds and interior of the Castle Miramare. From our hotel in Trieste we were there within 30 minutes although our mini-bus had to park a distance. The 1/4 mile walk was a pleasant introduction enabling us to see the dazzlingly clear Adriatic waters with schools of small fish... More

This is where Maximilian of Asbourg, lived before becoming Emperor of Mexico. The park is beautiful and the Castle is too, both inside and outside. Wonderful see views. The ground floor is the residential part of the castle, quite intimate and "cosy", with the more formal rooms upstairs. Not to be missed!

We visited Castello di Miramare on a late summer afternoon and enjoyed beautiful sunset over the Adriatic from one of the upper teraces. The grounds of the castel are beautiful with gazebos and ponds take you back to romantic principles. Presence of the sea gives the castel special allure because it looks like flowting on sea level. Gothic, Medivial and... More
