Miramare is a favorite for a day visit from the North Italian bathing cities. The pretty little white castle can make you dream and certainly provides for nice photo ops - but once you heard some of the tragic history, you may want to stick to dreams instead of reality.

No wonder prince Maximillian fell in love with the location at first sight! There were renovations going on, but not too disturbing. great place for a picnic too

The scenery from inside the castle, the detailed architectural plans, the unique decorated rooms and the story of this castle and its inhabitants are very interesting and worth admiring!

A truly beautiful castle with stuning views over the Adriatic. It's surrounded by gardens and you can go swimming nearby. You can also tour the interior for a few Euros ( kids free). This is pleasant rather than outstanding, but it gives a nice sense of history of Austro-Hungary and Italy.

We toured the castle on a sunny Sunday afternoon and learned so much about Maximilian and the history of the area. It was fascinating to see copies of the original drawings for the castle designed in the 1860's. The setting of the castle is amazing, overlooking the Adriatic, it's a must see if you are in the area of Trieste.

The view and the walk in the park is beautiful, during a sunny day; wide variety of plants and flowers. The "castle" is the vacation villa of Ferdinand Maximilian of Habsburg, archduke of Austria and the emperor of Mexico. The interior is very rich, adorned and well preserved, because has been built around 1850. It is not my kind of... More

This is a really nice castle that's a short bus ride from downtown. It's small enough to walk around comfortably in, with each room laid out as it had been in the past, rather than set up to overload you with too many portrait paintings. There also are nice grounds to walk around, although some of that is undergoing restoration.... More

Was just expecting 'another' castle, but the location and scenery was amazing. Decent parking is available. The castle and the grounds themselves are beautiful (gardens under renovation). History and culture abound. Visit the home of the once (briefly) Emperor Of Mexico. Check out great seafood restaurant a few km away (Trattoria Al Pescatore) afterwards (parking may be tough)

This was a great day out, we cycled to the castle from Trieste along the sea front, 40 minutes, to arrive at this beautiful place! Extremely cheap to look around, full of quirky designs and meaningful history. The gardens were undergoing work which was a shame but overall a beautiful place and well worth a visit for the pure opulence!

Great time to visit inJuly 2014, 100 years since the start of WWI. So much history here. Beautiful rooms and furniture. Such excess, and he only got to live here for a few years.
