We went for a later afternoon visit on a late-December day, thus sundown was quite early in the day (4:30ish). The grounds were so lovely to walk through, we did not quite get the opportunity to experience the indoor tour. From what we heard later, we didn't miss much, that the interior is not kept up well and can appear... More

Trieste is a very pleasant city. There is a good morning jog or walk on the sea side. You star in the railway station to the direction of the Castelo de Miramare. There are parks and nice views of the ocean and when you arrive in the Castle the geographic location is superb. Nice architecture to appreciate . A nice... More

The castle is beautiful and we actually enjoyed the outside and the surrounding grounds more than the inside. It was 6 euro per person to tour the inside and it was interesting but I probably wouldn't pay for it again. Just walking around the grounds (free) was enjoyable.

A very nice trip with bus no. 6 from central Trieste. The building is not really heated so keep ur jacket on. There os only a small cafe in the parc with sandwiches also vegetarian. The castle is lovely and the tour is intresting and colourful.

Beautiful royal castle that sadly was never lived in by the couple that built it. If in Trieste and you have a day its a must visit. The gardens and grounds are a beautiful walk. Seaside location is outstanding.

A marker in a short live – Maximilian died just 36 – like Mozart! Second to Franz Joseph – who gave Europe 60 years of peace before he initiated the catastrophe of the 20th century. Being second, but better – how can architecture & gardening (has to be restored), a little universe – how can it be epitomized in a... More

Absolutely brilliant. Extensive grounds with beautifully designed gardens to explore at your leisure and without charge if you can get a pack before you enter the grounds proper. There are interpretive signs throughout the gardens explaining the very inetersting history. For a fee you can tour the house. While there are brief descriptions inside each room, it is worthwhile hiring... More

Alhtough from the incoming road it does not look spectacular, when you come in front of of the castle, it is simply breathtaking. The advantage is coming with a guide who can tell a story of the unfortunate couple of the Archduke Maximilian (the later Emperor of Mexico) and his beloved wife Charlotte (the princess of Belgium). The whole castle... More
