Unique place, full of local people enjoying the sea, the incredibly long seawalk, eating home-made food, speaking, tanning and socializing. Delicious little marina, 6km long sidewalk 2 mt. away from the sea that leads to Miramare Castle. You could spend an entire day in Barcola without getting bored!

Basically this place is in the southern suburbs of Trieste and as a consequence, it is easy and cheap to get there on public transport. But probably the best way to go, is go up on the ferry and return by bus E2.50 boat and E1.30 bus. one way Takes about 15 minutes and to take a picnic lunch would... More

Lovely location and provided the weather is fine, the ideal place to stroll, take in the scenery, and watch locals enjoying the unusual bathing platforms (known as little mice! because they resemble the nose of rodents from an aerial perspective) Lots of green space, plenty of places to enjoy a meal and drink, pretty houses and walkways, lovely churches and... I think Trieste loves it's beach becuse you don't find anything like that in Italy. I mean: no sand, cristal clear sea, breath taking scenery (you can always see the castle and the rest of the coast, if the day is clear you get to see the mountains too)and the fact that it free. I am obviously partial, but you... More

It was lovely to arrive there every afternoon and have an Aperol Spritz or a glass of white wine to drink on my beach towel. It was great to see Italian women on a holiday weekend swimming and not feeling ashamed or inhibited about large displays of flesh.

A small port just with lots of boats and restaurants along the seafront make this an ideal spot to eat and wander. The sea is clean so in the summer a swim can be a welcome break.

We were only in Trieste for 3 days and we spent a day here. The rest of our time was walking around the town.

This is Trieste's 'beach' area.....very rocky but steps into the sea. Lots of bars and cafes....ten minutes on bus from Trieste. Went a couple of times whilst in Trieste. Very clean and safe.

Barcola is the name of a neighborhood, but when locals say they're going to Barcola, they usually mean going to the beach. On Viale Miramare from the Pineta to the Castello di Miramare you can find the most unreal beach of the world. (In a 50-meters cross-section there are the sea, the concrete beach, the promenade, the motorway and houses... More
