We went for a day trip yesterday to Trieste, I was impressed with the city and it's beautiful buildings and architecture. Another thing that we found interesting was how clean the downtown core was. I have been to many port cities and found this is one of the cleaner ones. I recommend this town to anyone. Only issue we found... More

I warmly suggest the Panoramic Tour of Trieste and Surroundings, so not just historic center but a full day to visit 3 castles (Duino, Miramar and St. Justus) + Victoria Lighthouse (free entrance) the Foiba of Basovizza, Risiera of San Sabba (the only nazi lager in Italy), Muggia, The scenic coastal Road, PortoPiccolo Luxury resort, The scenic Rilke Trail (close... I am a proud and lucky offspring of Trieste. That's it. It's a very interesting town, founded by Romans, part of the Austro-Hungarian lot for 500 years, only joined Italy in 1954 (and some people say not legally so to the extent that there may still be grounds to have an independent Montecarlo-type of enclave) and so on. I spent... More

This understated city is not simply the tourist trap I anticipated but rather a working port city with areas of stunning elegance and a welcoming and friendly population. We were spoilt for choice of restaurants, cafes, bars and coffee shops. You can also shop 'til you drop if it takes your fancy and all of this is easily doable on... More

We were in Trieste mid-August. They were celebrating ferragosto. Outdoors concerts and eateries - so much celebrating going on. The city is in the far north eastern part of Italy and we accessed it by rail from Venice - an easy ride. Visited Miramare and other seaside points of interest as well as the Crematorium. Trieste is very similar to... More

My wife and I stopped at the tourist office and picked up the audio walking tour handsets for €4 each. The tour takes about 3 hours with a stop for coffee during the tour and a spritz back in the Grande Piazza. It's a fascinating way to learn about Trieste and it's historical connections to Austria. There is a good... More

We were in Trieste early this June. They were celebrating the Republic Day and the Giro D'Italia ending there - much celebrating going on. The city was all decked out and jets spewing forth red, white and green smoke while the Italian national anthem was playing was outstanding! The town is in the far north eastern part of Italy and... We booked this through viator for the end of March, paid and got vouchers. We went to wait for the bus and when it didn't show up we called the local number given and were told they didn't know what happened but they don't run until April. Actually, this is probably not something you need to do. The Audiotour of... More

From across the Caffe San Marco, the most splendid and theatrically old world of Trieste's historic coffee houses,i find myself unable to stop staring at the elderly man who, like certain figures you see when travelling, seems conjured up,by magic to enhance the ambience of a place. perhaps its just the setting - the glossy, dark wood panelling, the golden walls, the marble topped tables,the...
